Just throwing this question out there for all you ......  Do you think that my decrease in wafer wear time could be from one of the things I drink on a daily basis?  I mix cranberry/black cherry juice and water (1/3 juice, 2/3 water).  I usually drink 4-6 bottles of it a day, depending on my activity, along with my other "drinks" throughout the day.   I think I began drinking this juice mix about 6 months ago or so.... hmmmmmm  maybe?   I sure hope not - I love the stuff, and I mix it pretty weak, just for flavor.  And, some nutritional value as well.

i think that maybe acidic drinks (pineapple juice, tomato juice, orange juice) could do that, but i don't know about those two juices, are they very acidic?  and since you are watering them down alot too, ,it might not make a difference.

Well, that was my thought... I think I could tell if they were too acidic cuz I would get heartburn (I usually do if things are too acidic).... still just curious though.

Peggy,
You could try an experiment, if you're not too addicted to that juice! tongue The next time you put on a new wafer, don't drink the juice for a couple of days, and see if it makes a difference in your wear time. If it doesn't, then you know it's not the reason.

Peggy,

I need to drink prune juice because I tend to run low on patassium. I had my blood taken 2 weeks ago and my potassium was perfect so I have not had prune juice since. While drink the juice my wafer degrated faster. I noticed this right away and knew it was b/c of the juice. Now that I am not drinking the juice, my wafers are lasting much better. I have not worn an insert in 4 days and this Coloplast wafer is still going strong.

Oh wow Amey, that's interesting! Never would have thought prune juice would cause a problem.... Oh man, I don't wanna give up my juice. (I sound like a whiner!) But it is a good way to test things out I guess. I have become addicted to it!!! I guess I'll go back to Gatorade for a few days.....

Amey, that's great news about your potassium and your wear time! :-)

Peggy, hopefully, your favorite juice is not the problem. sad

Thanks Cecilia this was my first "normal" blood work in over a year! I was so excited to hear my DR say, "Hey Amey, all of you blood work looks great!" I had to have blood work done every single week for several months b/c I needed to keep a close watch on myself. This recent test was the first test since my surgery...and it was good! :o)

Amey,
That's another wonderful benefit to this surgery ~ being healthy inside and out!! I used to be anemic before my surgery and had to have my blood drawn monthly. I haven't had my blood drawn in a long time, because I'm not anemic anymore! :-)

I normally only have to have blood work drawn 2 times a year now to check my B-12 levels... I have to give myself injections every 2 weeks. Healthy is good!!!

Congrats Amey and Cecilia.....!!!!!!

I don't really see how drinking anything would decrease your wear time. I could see it if you perspire more than usual, that might do it. But I don't see how the juice, or even the acidity in it could transfer to the upper layer of your skin, besides perspiration that is. Cecilia's suggestion about not drinking anything after the next change is a good one. It will help you to eliminate any concerns about the juice whatsoever.

i think it's because the acid in the juice can make your poo more acidic, and that is what gets to the wafer

TESTING IS OVER!!!  I am back to my favorite juice/water!  Just in time .... the withdrawals and shakes were awful.  (naw, just kidding)

I really didn't notice much difference in wear time minus my fav drink since Sunday,Monday.  I had to change my bag last night cuz of wear.  Next change ---- Eakin Seal!  Yep, Judy, I'm gonna move on to another one of your hints.  See Hayley, I am experimenting and taking advice from others STILL.
