hi guys

i posted just after my ileostomy reversal. i'm about 6 weeks out and i'm having a lot of problems wtih bowel movements. i had rivers of diarrhea and a GI doc friend agreed with the Immodium so many on this list swear by. I do have a hemorrhoid (sp?) but for some reason my bm is really troublesome at the anal opening (my anatomy understanding is poor here). My bf is a doc and gives me diazapam (generic valium) to help relax the muscle, i soak with epsom salts, i have an entire routine, but it seems i spend 6 hours or more a day in the bathroom hurting and wishing it would get over. any suggestions would be appreciated, i'm back to see my surgeon soon and our last visit he didn't seem to understand that i want as simple a time using my 'normal' system as i had with my ostomy. i did incorporate benefiber into my diet in small amounts (1/2 recommended child's dosage) to help with the constipation (either diarrhea or constipation, i really don't win here).

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm coming off the pain relievers, slowly integrating back to work and wondering if this will get any better. It's such an enormous drain of my energy.

Thanks in advance.

Camille,

Your post is exactly the reason why I will never have a reversal. I am too afraid of the things I read about from people who have been reversed. I do not have any great words to offer you. I just wanted you to know that I read your post and I am so sorry that you are suffering. You sound like you are in so much pain and I truly remember the bathtub days where I would sit in hot water and cry b/c my bum hurt so bad. I would have a whole assortment of bum assessories next to me...a cold wash cloth, my lidocaine cream, witch hazel pands, and what ever else would ease the pain. The thing that worked the best was sitting in REALLY hot water and then applying a very cold wash cloth for a minute or two and then alternating between the hot water and cold compress of the wash cloth.

I hope you find some relief very soon.
