Yup, I'm with summerstorm. I had the surgery, and now I wish I had done it 7 years ago. It took me three months after the surgery to feel that way, but now that I am all healed up, I'm definitely better!
UC diagnosed: December, 1999
Asacol: 1600 MG daily
Immuran: 150 MG daily
Prednisone: 4 MG daily (Woo-Hooo! Getting lower and lower!)
Remicade: Infusion every 7 weeks
Probiotics 4 billion CFU Daily
Glutamine 500 mg 2x Daily

OFF all meds!! Liver failure, and emergency surgery as soon as liver levels return to normal. ACK!

Surgery August 24, 2007. Home now!

Obviously surgery is supposed to be the last resort. But had i known the end would be surgery, i would have had it SOONER than i did. Things are so much better than it was with the disease. Christie, i look at your list of meds and remember doing all that. I did the prednisone ( 60mg DAILY!!) , the remicade, 6MP and every other med you can think of. I look back and can't believe how much BETTER i feel just being OFF all that stuff.
You learn to deal with the bag, but your body doesn't have much of a choice when your on all those meds.
I feel better, i know i'm happier, i've been feeling stronger and i don't plan my life around where the bathrooms are!!! Heck, sometimes i don't need to find a bathroom for hours. Before the surgery i couldn't go 20 minutes.
Guess what i'm saying is I'M GLAD I DID IT!!

I wish I would've done it 7 years earlier. It's true that hindsight is 20/20!
