I have had PD for five years..I have taken mirapex 1 mg 3 times a day along with sinemet cardopa/levadopa 25/100 mg 1-1/2 tablets 4 times daily.  I have on and off had severe swelling in my legs and feet..I have gotten off of mirapex once before and tried requip which did nothing for mel.  I have been back on mirapex  cinse May of this year.  I am now going off Mirapex again because the swelling is worse than ever; however, the swelling has not gone away this time as it did before.

I am wondering if anyone has had the same problem andif so, what did you
do?? I feel much worse just being on Sinemet and have more trouble walkign, etc.

Has anyone been told of another reason for this swelling in the legs and feet rather than the drug Mirapex.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated..

Smity,

I blame swelling in my feet on mirapex, but like you I do much better when I'm on mirapex.I wear diabetic socks ,which you can get at Walmart, and they seem to help.I also elevate my feet when I sleep or rest, and that seems to keep the swelling down.Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.Wish you the best, and welcome to HealingWell.

Thanks for your response.  I do wear support hose now that the weather is cooling down and I do elevate my feet wen I sleep.  I am also going to PT twice a week.  My primary thinks I should definitely get off of Mirapex all together but my neurologist says i need the Mirapex....so with what my neuro has to say and what you are saying I am going to continue the mirapex - going up to i mg the rest of this week...add another half next week and by the following go to 2 mg a day with 6 sinmet  a day...and hopefully get a rx or stalevo.  If it gets worse again I guess i can always tapper down again.  I might add that I had two ultrasounds last week, one on each leg, no blood clots....hurray - no kiney polems and all blood work was normal...I think you are right so I am going to give it a try once again.
My husband also has PD - diagnosed 11 years ago...and he is doing great...no change in medicine for over five years...18 mg requip per day and 4 sinemet.
I've learned that not everyoen has the medicine problems...we do what we can and keep smiling.
