My mom was on generic Sinemet 25/100 2 tablets each dose at 5am, 1 pm, and 8 pm. They wore out about 3 hours after taking each time.
She's now on 150mg Stalevo and that lasts about 4 hours. After that her leg starts to tap for about an hour. It then stops for no reason. She takes .50 mg name brand Mirapex with it. So, how long does these drugs for you? I don't want her taking them more frequently because the side effects gets worse of confusion gets worse for her. What I've been doing is giving her half a tablet of 25/100 Sinemet in between Stalevo doses to give her more "pep"" Since that only asks about 90 minutes or so I thought it might help her get some strength back. But she's drowsy all day long.

Bella,I take 100mg stalevo 4x a day,and .75 mirapex 4x.On a good day I get three hours on time.Ican increase on time by a full hr by adding ,5mg lorazepam.I rarely do thisbut do when I need the extra on time.My neuro says that the lorazepam reduces stress, and increases the effectiveness of the pd drugs.I wuoldn't make any changes without first consulting with him.Wish you the best.Ed

Yekkimo,

Do you get drowsy after taking it each time? It's like a sleeping pill for my mom. She sleeps about 2 hours after taking it and then she's awake for about an hour and then start dosing off again. You say you take it 4 times a day and only get 3 good hours each time so what happens to you after those 3 hours and why don't you take more? Do you get side effects too?

Bella,I generally don't get drowsy after taking my meds. After 3 hrs my full blown pd symptoms are back.I don't take more because like others I feel that my symptoms will worsen,as my meds become less effective. My worse side effect is freezing.Ed

The reason it's like a sleeping pill for mom is because she chews it up which means she's getting a rush of the meds all at once. Due to her dementia she cannot help it. She sees the pill as a threat so she chews before swallowing to avoid choking. This afternoon she actually swallowed it whole and she was alert and well. What I wouldn't give to have her be like this every dose.

Can you take a smaller dose of Stalevo after say 4 hours before the next regular dose. Maybe take a 50mg and have that last about 2 hours or a little less to tie you over?
