.
So today I went to get measured/sized up whatever they want to call it before they figure on just where to focus on the adjuvant prostate radiation.

I have this booklet, supplied by the London Health Science Group that shows a picture of their IMRT radiation projected focus rays. It appears to have 6 different angles, indicating 6 different projectives for the radiations.

So, I went tru the CT Scan and the lovely ladies placed 3 tiny little tattoos on my belly. This was after I told them that I have always insisted that my grand kids would not be allowed in this house with ANY tattoos.! But here they are.

HOW COME I ONLY GOT THREE TATTOOS ???

Many of our brothers have done IMRT, so, please tell me about your TATTOO numbers.

CT Scan scheduled for Dec. 1st. Negative.

Started Casodex 50mg. on Nov. 6, first pill of 30.

No real side effects as of Dec. 15 except dry skin and hair but getting quite 'porky' in the belt area even though now I go to the gym, three times a week. Also I dont have a need to shave anymore so now I can save my 'shaving' allowance and direct it to my stash of Depends !

Hi Jerry! Sorry you had to get the 3 little dots! I am a radiation therapist in Calgary, and I can tell you (with certainty) that ALL you need to have are 3 tattoos. I'm assuming they put one on each side, and one on the front, well below your bellybutton. ALL the tattoos do is give the therapists an anatomic landmark for lining you up for your daily treatments.

There are numerous other treatment verification methods that we use for getting you accurately positioned on a daily basis, including measurements provided by your individualized "treatment plan", and positioning verification imaging. If you're the least bit scared, or have any other questions about RT, don't hesitate to email me!!

Karen

My machine required 3. One on my abdomen, and one on each hip. When I laid down on the table there were 3 cross hair lasers that lined up on each on the dots.

Three for me too...

And each week of my treatments,  on x-ray Monday, they would take a set of x-rays at the vertical and horizontal positions to measure if any offsets would be needed.

I thought everyone got six. Well, just like everything else, the number of tattoos is different. I suppose it depends on the machine and the protocol.

I had nine beams. Six tattoos were: two on my knees, two on my hips and two forming a vertical line from abdomen down. The techs fussed with the hip marks the most.

I also had weekly X-rays taken to compare agains the plan. After that they entered adjustments and the table moved a bit.
