My husband has his first post-op PSA test tomorrow.  Do you have to fast for that test?  In the past, he had always fasted but he was also having other bloodwork done at the same time.

It's only been 5 weeks, a little early to score a zero, but diet or fasting has nothing to do with it...Most docs wait at least 8 weeks for all the residual PSA to be absorbed.. Best of luck to you...

Thanks for your quick reply. At first, when I checked online for the appointment time, it was for 10 weeks post op (September) and when I questioned that, the nurse rescheduled us for 8/25. She said it was her error. I don't know if the doctor is out next week or what as we have an appointment to see him 2 hours after the blood draw. We will probably have to go get re-tested again in the near future.

Fasting is needed for some tests, so by default I am fasting every time I have a psa at my GP, but never at my uro.

It has never been mentioned as significant for PSA to me.

I get the ultra-sensitve test ( 2 decimals). I fast, get it done the same time of the day at the same lab- morning, and don't have sex for 48 hours before.

The effects may be small but I consider it my duty to limit the few variables under my control.

I think it is too late to worry about no sex for 48 hours before the PSA test when the prostate is gone. BTW I would love to have sex within 48 hours of my first post op test next week, but I am not to confident that Willy will be up to it then. nono

No need to fast for any PSA test as far as I know.
