An interesting short article in the Wall Street Journal page D4. Have not seen it discussed here. Googling this topic found an article stating a study published on May 8 in the Oxford Journals's Carcinogenesis.

Anybody read the study?

Hi.
I read something about allspice a while back. Don't remember the details. People in Jamaica where it grows are big on the stuff.

And I thought the big news today was going to be about garlic:

You can never tell what the media will pick up on. I know some guys will actually take allspice, garlic, etc. based on these kinds of lab and epidemiological studies.

Allen, besides preventing PCa the garlic has the secondary effect of keeping vampires away. Now if you can just find the study that says chocolate prevents PCa BCR, I will be a happy camper. yeah

Jim,
I scanned my dietary folder for chocolate, but I'm fresh out. Beyond the more common ones, I do have files on algae, barberry, beehive propolis, beets, bitter melons, cloves, cranberries, ginger, ginseng, grapeseed, guggal, kava, licorice root, magnolia, mangosteen, marijuana, milk thistle, mushrooms, quince, saffron, sage, sweet potato greens, walnuts and wormwood -- how about some absinthe instead?

The thread has been humorous. This remark though seems condescending in its swipe at those who choose to use food-based supplements.

RobertC,

Having watched food fads come and go, and knowing the difference between a randomized clinical trial that proves cause and effect vs looser indicators of association, I have become very skeptical about food/supplement claims. I just came from a support group meeting last night where a guy was touting "starving the cancer" with low sugar. This, despite the fact that PCa doesn't metabolize sugar until late stage disease. On the other hand, I think we all have to do whatever gets us through the day, and giving ourselves a sense of control can be helpful for doing that.

The Brits are having a wonderful time with their "Pomi-T" supplement but hasn't caught on here yet..One can buy Allspice extract, a potent liquid. I don't know how you could get it down..You can powdered Allspice by the pound and make your own capsules..
