Apple Cider Vinegar

I was using the vinegar and honey for sore throat and coughs a few months ago and gave some to my dad the other day because he has a cough and I happened to find this when I was searching for vinegar's uses to prove that it's used for coughing. You all probably already know this, but I thought I'd share it with those who don't.


COLITIS:

The cider vinegar and honey treatment has been used effectively in the treatment for colitis. Take the normal dosage of two teaspoons cider vinegar and honey with water, three times a day. An enema of a teaspoonful or more of molasses is also very helpful.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I hadn't heard that before. Might have to try that. Has anyone here tried it?

Wow, I am amazed. My friend from Russia had made some of this and gave it to me, told me to drink it 3 times a day. I threw it away when I got home, I figured it would tear my guts apart! (I have food sensitivity to apples though.)

Diagnosed with Left-sided Ulcerative Colitis 1995 at 15, Tried: Prednisone, Rowasa & Hydrocort. Enemas, Proctofoam, Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Probiotics, Fish Oil, Canasa, Enotcort, Colazol, Anamantle, etc... had almost recto-vaginal fistula in 2004, put on Remicade, August 2007:Increased Remicade dosage-700mg every 6 weeks,diagnosed w/ Psoriatic Arthritis & Fibromyalgia Current meds: Remicade 700mgs every 6 wks (had reaction, will start Humira Feb 11) Clorazepate, Proctofoam HC, Glucosamine 500, Vitamin B, Lomotil,  Tylenol pm, Lyrica for Fibromyalgia started 1/17/08

It tastes so gross...but it's suppose to be an all around health benefit for many things...a friend of mine gave it to her horses whenever they had any kind of issues and it always nurses them back to health.

FYI, you should use organic apple cider vinegar with the "mother", it's brown settlement on the bottom that you shake (Braggs is a good one) - you get it at a health food store, and the honey is buckwheat honey.

I drank it when I was pregnant, but I don't remember why :) That was 13 years ago.

Vinegar has always made my UC symptoms worse

Don't like the sound of that...

Regular vinegar is not good to take when fighting off a fungus, mudua, so maybe that is why. I am pretty sure there is a difference with apple cider vinegar and might be a benefit, but this is only hearsay information--would need to check up on this--but I do remember the pH value between the two are on different ends (acidic/alkaline).

I have no idea about the molasses it was just on the website. it does seem weird though.

I actually like the taste of it (I know that's weird)

I read on some other website that vinegar isn't good for your gums and I think that's why they tell you to drink it with water to wash some of it out.

Cider vinegar is high in acid and will eat the enamel off your teeth.  You should brush your teeth after drinking it.

If you believe UC might be fungal related, then you should stay far away from any form of vinegar. I know that I have elevated levels of candida due to tests I have taken, so I won't take it; besides I experimented with it in the past and I didn't feel good for two weeks afterwards, but everyone is different.

Wow, how cool! I also use cider vinegar and honey for coughing/sore throat with herbal tea. If you hate the taste, try adding more honey, or a little less vinegar. I know when I have a sore throat I crave the stuff! I had no idea this was documented, however! My aunt is a singer and it's her 'secret' remedy when she's sick and has to sing! Thanks for the info!

Currently taking:
Asacol 4pills 3x/day
Prograf 5mg/day
(Prograf is my miracle drug! It doesn't seem to be well known, but it's fantastic!)

Previously Tried:
Prednisone (works, but such awful side effects!), 6-MP (gave me acute pancreatitis), Entocort, Cipro (antibiotic), Bentyl, Canasa suppositories, a couple different enemas

Honey and even apple cider vinegar is a pretty common known thing to help with a sore throat/cough/cold...at least I thought it was...I only give my kids honey for a sore throat and have been for as long as they've been alive, one's 18, the other is 15.
