I was out of work for roughly one week at the end of January, just feeling really run down, slight chills, but I think my temperature was just under 98.6.  I had the full blown snot situation, which eventually sunk into my lungs and I spent another week just getting through the nagging cough.

I finally went to urgent care for that sickness, (after having unsuccessfully tried to return to work) and the doc said probably a cold, gave me a script for Zpack and we both agreed to wait and see if it gets better before taking antibiotic.  It eventually started getting better so I never took it.

Then for what I'm guessing is 1-3 weeks I was just fine, all better.

Here we are in February, and, once again Saturday morning I notice I'm feeling a little off, a little grumpy.  By mid to late day Saturday I'm starting to feel run down.  I wake up today and my body aches a bit, have felt chills may have a bit of a fever, and a slight cough with some phlegm.

What gives?  I don't know if I'll need to call into work AGAIN, this would be like the 3rd monday in the last 2 months I've called in.

And, I got a flu shot (which I know they are saying wasn't effective)

What would you guys do?  I've been just resting all day today.

This sucks guys, I'm so frustrated...and it has nothing to do with bowel movements.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. It can be really frustrating. I felt like I kept getting colds, ear infections and throat infections all the time for a stretch of a few months this past year. For the past few months, I've been okay, knock on wood. Maybe if you had an bacterial infection it never fully went away since you didn't take antibiotics. I'm not sure, but I've had the same thing happen to me where I'd get really sick, then felt better for a week or two and then was really sick again.

I think it's a good idea to keep resting as much as you can, drink lots of fluids. Have you ever tried taking Airborne? It sometimes seems to help me ward off colds. I always try to eat lots of healthy foods and fruits, especially when I'm sick. Maybe some light exercise if you don't feel too crappy. If it continues to get worse, I would go back in to see the doctor.

Hope you feel better soon.

Drink plenty of fluids and go extra on chicken noodle soup, keep warm and rest when you can...take in honey off a spoon or whatever a few times a day too.

I do feel your pain this year.  I teach, so I am always exposed to germs.  In the past 5 months I have gotten 5 illnesses, three of which were debilitating!  In fact, with the last I had a severe double ear infection and my right eardrum ruptured.  I will be without hearing now for up to one month!!!

Anyway, I just want to let you know that you are not alone and that this is a terrible season for illness.

Let me know if you find the lucky remedy!

Yeah i definitely know how ya feel... I had a cold.... then a sinus infection...   then a horrible stomach virus.... and now im all snotty again....

i think it has to do with the fact that first of all i work in a daycare with sick kids... and secondly my immune system is really bad since i've been on pred for so long now

Unfortunately, the flu shot won't protect you from other flu/cold respirtory virusus (and there are hundreds of them) ...they can only predict which three will be the most deadly and put them in a shot...but, they can be off a bit.

It's easy to get many coldin succession if you've been exposed to them and your immune system is run down.

You could consider to take something like Cold FX, Zicam (in the US), Mucinex (in the US), up your zinc a bit..etc.

I was sick last year from fall to the end of Feb three times. It sucked big time...I can relate to how you feel.

Tonight, I just started to get a slight tickling in my throat with a bit of a cough to relieve it.....I hope I'm not getting sick...aaargh!!! I haven't been all summer/fall/winter ....soooo, I've taken double zinc, Cold FX, echinacea, vitamins, carrot juice, double my asthma preventor inhaler and a zantac just in case it's reflux...lol!

I hope you fight it off...for I do hate getting colds. As far as the flu...I've had it a few times in my life...horrific!

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

EmergenC and Zicam nasal swabs! Work best at the very very beginning of a cold, but help to shorten the duration. and if you have asthma, be sure to use your inhaler or a steroid inhaler to help your lungs out!

I literally had a sinus infection every month for something like 4-5 months when fall/winter started. I feel something coming on right now. It is just that time of the year!

As for the flu shots it will only protect against certain strains of the flu. My son had a super high fever the other day...his ped. swabbed him for the flu (he has had the shot) b/c our area is seeing a record # of flu cases this year. Even w/ people that have had the flu.

I had a cold for almost 2 months! I went to my GP and he actually told me I was "hosed" because I couldn't take antibiotics. The otnher thing he does for bad coughs and colds is prednisone. But I am steroid dependent so taht was also a no. The imuran also made it harder to get rid of the cold. So great! I am finally feeling better but 2 month cold! come on!

Oh I read on cnn.com awhile back that the flu going around is a different strain than the vaccine so it has not been as effective this season. Don't know if thats true everywhere or just here.

Ya, you don't take anitbiotics for a cold...a cold just has to run it's course which is usually 5-10 days I believe, but there's nothing saying that you can't keep catching one cold after another and end up being sick for 2 months with colds...but I've heard that you can't catch the same cold virus more than once...don't remember where I heard that.

If you have an infection, like strep throat then you have to take anitbiotics because it can turn into strep of the skin and you just get soooooo sick it's not even funny.

I had a 'minor' cold for about a month, normally one of those for a week but just could not shake it. Theraflu always seems to help me out.

I was sick all over the Christmas break. I took airborne non stop and it only seemed to keep me from getting worse not better. Then I took afrin (the generic version) and it clean me up in 3 days. Basically I stopped the draining to my lungs, which stopped the cough, and led to my full recovery. Afrin is really strong and can only be taken 2 a day. Its OTC, so you can get it at any drug store. Hope you feel better.
