I am suffering from UC for past 2 yrs. I took homeopathy for 1 yr. but no positive effect.
now i am taking naturopathy treatment for past 1.5 months. i am feeling 70% relief in this disease.
Diet - Lemon juice in water , butter milk & curd (from cow's milk) & bottle gourd (steamed without any spices)
Buttermilk & curd are the only medicine for treating ulcer. only these shud be taken till mucus disappears.

sounds like a very boring lifestyle doesn't heal UC.

What medications are you on and where in the colon is your UC?

*Heather*Status: mini flare Dec 28... tapered to every 4th night
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~5ASA: Asacol (6 daily) + Salofalk enemas (increase for flares tapered to maintenance)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~Probiotic 3(Natural Factors Protec) bedtime + 1 (Primadophilus Reuteri) occasionally
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed ....zymactive 3 - 5x daily
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux) Effexor XR 75mg;  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!

I'm glad this is working for you. I feel that if you find something that works for you then it's all good but not necessary good for everyone. Uc is so very individualistic. Do you eat anything else to get the vitamins and minerals that your body needs? Or take supplements?

Just to give a more balanced reply to your argument: Getting the right food for myself was the single bigggest factor in healing my last UC flare - second only to controlling stress.

Its good to see that you are exploring other therapies other than medicine.

Asacol and Iron as Needed. <I've fallen back into unhealthy ways and really enjoying it, burb!>

Wow that's great!!!

70% relief is huge for anyone, I am happy for you. However, I respectfully disagree with your statement:

"Buttermilk & curd are the only medicine for treating ulcer..."

I got rid of my ulcers without using Buttermilk & curd and this was verified through a colonoscopy. But it's great to hear good news regarding this DD, especially on a Monday.

Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis January 2007
Meds: Remicade, Primal Defense Ultra, Multi-vitamins (also iron, B12, Magnesium and Zinc), Flaxseed/Natures Bounty Fish Oil
Swanson Ultra Caprylic Acid (natural anti-fungal) 600mg x2 daily
Carrot & Garlic supplements (natural anti-fungal) x2 daily
Currently taking herbal meds in the search to regain full health.

For me, specific foods didn't "heal" my UC, but avoiding certain foods did. I suppose if I wanted to stay on all my drugs I could have continued to eat what I wanted to, with UC symptoms popping up now and then, but I didn't want to be on drugs the rest of my life. I'm a much happier camper now. Whatever works, go for it............

hi happy living ,
Since i live in india I know about naturopathy, Ayurveda & lot of that stuff. I was taking homeopathy medicine from doctor so i dont know the composition of medicine.
Now gradually i have started taking Rice (very well cooked) , very ripened Banana, Jaggery & Tamarind chatni. Also i am taking Bottle gourd, Zucchini, pointed gourd vegetables ( strictly boiled).
Also , papaya , grapes, apple,water melon.
Buttermilk & yougurt itself work as a medicine for UC. Also, put lemon juice in hot milk & then filter the water from cheese (or paneer).Drink this water only (more effective than buttermilk). You should stay away from milk , oily & spicy food and also fibre containing food in initial stage.
There are also external physical tretment to be done here.
halo quincy , for treating disease there is no question of boring or exiciting food. u have no other choice.
Acoording to naturopathy all medicine are poison for the body. Natural food is the medicine for permanent cure.

Halo eva lou, I am taking complete rest so no question of calories !!!

I am glad that it worked with you, but this is not standard that everyone will benefit from. I am an Indian and my mom went into remission using Wheatgrass and cabbage juice. It worked wonders on her and she is in remission for last 18+ years. That being said, I tried the same stuff that she did, with her own methods that she implemented, yet it didn't work even a dime for me.

So as much I agree with OP that it worked with him, I would suggest others, not to get swayed into thinking that it will work with them too. Doesn't harm giving it a shot, but don't expect too much. There are just too many variables.
Dx 03/2007, left sided UC. Currently in flare
Sulfasalazine 1.5gm 4X a day, Vit. B12, 1mg, Multivitamin, 1 tablet, Fish oil 2400mg , Butyrate 2-3 caps, Vit D 5000 IU, Benebiotics 2caps, Canasa, rectal steroids

Verapamil 320mg for migraine,
Nabumetone 750mg as an abortive, so far so good with GI side effects.

This sounds wise.

I would add that I see a red flag when someone goes beyond reporting some benefits they attribute to nutritional approaches and go on to make blanket statements that all medicine is poison for the body. that is just plain ignorant.
