I have not had a bowel movement in approximately 48 hours (when I normally spend 3 - 4 hours on the toilet every morning and then again in the evening sometimes).
I know some of you may be thinking..where is the problem in that?  The problem for me is that I have been passing mucousy gas with a little blood.  I also feel discomfort (not pain).  Almost like I'd feel better if I did have a bowel movement - maybe constipation?? I am afraid to leave the house for fear that my bowels will decide to move as soon as I do.  I'm not sure what to think of this - if it's good or bad.  I haven't gone two days without a bowel movement since I was diagnosed two years ago!  Does anyone know if it would be okay for me to take a stool softener or laxative to try and go?  I guess I'm used to waking up every day and getting it out of my system so I can go on with my day.
If this is a remission, believe me, I am happy! But I'm not so sure about that!

My GI says it's okay to use a small dose of Miralax when needed (I've never needed it :-() It's the same thing he uses for the colonoscopy prep, so it must be safe. Also, try taking some fiber - either dietary or a supplement - and increase your water intake. Drinking too little water can cause constipation. If you don't get some results within a day or so, call your GI.

I get severe constipation when flaring from the inflammation. My GI has also okayed a gentle laxative to get things moving. Drink lots of water...I think prunes help too.

Are you still on the Rowasa nightly?

Low in the rectum inflammation can cause constipation...part of the healing process...you're not in remission yet I don't think...but almost.

I suggest you not use a laxative. Stool softeners will help and increasing your food intake will help.

Are you eating?

How many Bentylol are you taking? They will help a bit with the constipation if you're having spasming...but not too many.

Make sure you're eating...you could also consider to start adding some fibre supplements...slowly.

Coffee will get your digestive system moving in the morning..

Coffee, without any doubt, gets my body moving any time of day. Here's my idea:

- Put on two pairs of well fitting underpants and a pair of jeans;
- Go for a nice brisk walk of about 10 to 15 minutes;
- Come back home and drink nice large cup of coffee;
- Get stuck into some house chores such as sweeping, mopping etc that makes u move around a lot.

That is a guaranteed winner for me if I need to get it all moving :-)

I am in the same situation. I haven't had a decent BM in 4 days now. I have no discomfort or pain. I actually feel good. I am like you afraid though on when & where the volcano will erupt. I am going to had beans for lunch today which usually helps. I think I will eat some raw vegetables to see if I can get things going before work tomorrow. I take fiber & drink lots of water so I can't figure out what is causing no BMs.
Asacol 6 tablets twice daily
Remicade every 8 weeks
Folid Acid daily
Methotrexate 3 times a week
Iron supplements

Quincy - I use Rowasa every other night.  I am eating and I take Citrucel daily. I also drink coffee every morning.   I have not taken any Bentyl lately- they make me sleepy! I will give them a try.  I will also try a stool softener.  Thanks!

I get random constipation too - never had that until just this past year. So my GI said occasional use of Miralax is fine. It's super gentle and causes no cramping. It works in about 12 hours, sometimes less.
