What is the best time to take probiotics? I normally take 4 VSL#3 in the morning. Should I spread out my doses? Or take them before bed?
Asacol-2400 mg
Aloe vera gel-4 ounces twice daily
4 VSL#3
Canasa

I believe before bed is best... I take my probiotics before bed because we don't eat anything while sleeping and gives the bacteria room to do its work.

I take one at lunch and one at bed. Just to break ALL the pills up so I don't have to take so many at once. But sick-colon's thought makes sense. I may have to check into this. Is there any studies to back this up or is it just a thought that makes sense?

The VSL#3 people say nothing about
when it should be consumed or if to avoid taking it with meals. In fact they say to mix it with a little bit of food like yogurt or apple sauce.
So if they didn't say anything then it probably doesn't make a difference.
Off of 5-ASA (6 years) and 1-day minor flareup since probiotics started.

the naturopath told me it didn't really matter but suggested one pill with each meal. I can't remember that when I'm out, so I take one in the morning and two in the evening. I tried adding an Align to my Forte in the evening but found it gave me a stomachache in the night. Maybe I need to try it with food, earlier in the day.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder at first, now Forte pills.
Doing much better, but still having some bad days.
