Hi,

I was wondering if anyone ever has any success on the steroid dose packs?  My doc always prescribes these to me when I'm flaring & they never seem to work for me.   Have they worked for anyone else or am I wasting my time & money?

Thanks,

Jennifer

Usually Solu-Medrol isn't strong enough, and six days isn't long enough to control a flare. Unfortunately, we usually need Prednisone or Entocort and for longer periods.

I found this old thread on pred dose packs and wanted to ask the same question. I was just put on this to give me temporary relief after Ucers, Asacol HD and cortifoam have not worked. This is just a temporary fix until I get another scope done. What is everyone's opinion on these, are they safe, will it help? Next step may be remicade. Really worried about that with all of its side effects.

The dosage is fairly low and only for 6 days. Even though it is possible you may suffer some mild side effects the dose pack is really nothing to worry about. I was prescribed one earlier this year for heel pain and it helped my UC out for a very short time. The only side effect I had was in shaking one of my kids one day when I was mad at them. It can give you a short fuse at times but the dose pack is prescribed for many things such as poisen ivy, etc and most people have zero problems.
