Does everyone here have a problem with coffee?

I know its one of those items that does cause problems in people with Ulcerative Colitis, but is there a brand that is more easier on the gut then others?

I used to take Nescafe in the mornings with very little problem, but recently tried Douwe Egberts which caused alot of cramping.

I don't think I am ready to convert to tea just yet...

When I had UC and at times when coffee was intolerable, I drank Inka (a grain beverage) or chicory. Both of those drinks were robust enough that it felt like I was drinking coffee but easy on the gut. You can find them at health food stores. Both products are instant.

I had to give up regular coffee while I was flaring badly... as I have been getting better, I started out with decaff coffee. Now I drink decaff most days of the week ( just a cup a morning ) On the weekends I may drink 3 or more cups of regular coffee. Dunkin Donuts brand is my brand of choice. I get along good this way. It still is a long way from how I used to be..... 3-4 cups every morning of caffinated coffee.... maybe i more in afternoon. SO this is a pretty strong cut back on the caffine for me.
During the week and the decaff times... i make regular fast coffee.... but on the weekends when I have the good caff coffee... I take the time to go old school and use my ole percolator pot. taste is SO worth the extra time.
Of course I'm not drinkin the coffee for the morning jump start obviously... I drinkin it cause I like the taste and its become a habit. LOL

I'm a Starbucks person. But not really a coffee person, I get 1-2 drinks. Either Iced mochas, or Caramel Machiatos. They don't really bother me, unless the people making the drink puts milk instead of soy.

I find that coffee does irritate my colon, although not by much.

I try not to drink it. I had a cup of decaf today, the first time since I got my last flare back in late September. I had to get my car fixed; so I really needed a cup of coffee.

I drink coffee...with milk/cream and sometimes sugar or honey.

I don't do the fancy coffees...I'd prefer more cups of coffee.

Coffee is a gastro stimulant. If I'm flaring, I may have more decaf or less cups. Depending on how I'm feeling.

Basically, I drink anywhere from 2 - 6 cups of coffee a day..on occasion more, but the buzz is more intolerable than the gastro effects.

I don't do Starbucks or any coffee that remotely smells like it. I'd puke.

I can never drink coffee while flaring.  Now I have no problem with it.  When in a flare I stick to green tea...decaffinated.

Coffee - good subject.  You know our systems are all different - we have to try and if you think coffee is bothering you - cut it out a while and you will find out.  The withdrawal can be terrible.  I told my NP I was having 1 to 2 cups of Folgers with coffee creamer every morning and Splenda. She gave me that "look" and said - moderation!! (and see how I feel).  When really bad (because I have IBS) I stick with peppermint tea first and then if all goes well - maybe one cup of coffee to avoid the headaches!!  I love a caramel latte anytime and take that chance when I can but not more than every two weeks or so.

I used to drink 3-4 cups of coffee day.  When my symptoms started getting real bad 5 months back I thought I should totally take coffee out of my diet which was VERY hard to do (I love coffee).  Since then, i havent had a 1 cup of coffee and have since switched over to decaf tea (green tea or chamomile) which is 10 times better for your health and colon.

Same here, love coffee, but...

I like it with lots of cream and splenda, and a big cup in the morning definitely gives my colon a push. In a rush I drink Tasters Choice Vanilla instant coffee, using my boiling water tap (it's so wrong but so easy). But I love to have some real when I have time (Dunkin donuts is new favorite). The instant is a lot easier on the gut, though, I notice.

And, like others, when I'm flaring, I force myself to switch to tea.

For me it was always a caffeine issue. I would stay away from coffee, tea with caffeine, and anything else I thought may cause a problem. However, once I got to a point where it didn't matter what I ate or drank I suffered just the same I started drinking coffee again. : )

I would suggest cutting out caffeine for awhile...try a half calf or decaf for a while. I'll warn you though, if you go to decaf you may want to invest in a better quality coffee. I learned that during my pregnancy. The detox from caffeine is brutal...but well worth it if it's going to make you feel better!! I chewed a lot of gum.

Good Luck!!!!
