sure, why not? It'll help you actually enjoy your flight, as opposed to worrying about the bathroom. I suppose it depends on what time of day you're flying, but I'd probably opt for it.

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
various probiotics
Fiber supplement

I always take it before flights - about an hour or 2.  Recommended by the doctor, of course and how you tolerate it.  When on vacation, I try to fly later morning or noon - take Imodium 2 hours before (after morning BM).  Each day on vacation I took Imodium after first BM and then was ok for the day - did not get constipated.  Only once I took it early evening as we were going to out later.  I can use only 1/2 - some people need more.

Thanks guys...I just went and bought Imodium AD + relief from cramps, gas and bloating.

Should I take 1 or 2 tablets before my flight (flight is at 7am)?

During my vacation (only 4 days), should I take 1 every morning as well?

I want this to be a fun vacation with no UC involved!!!

Thanks!

I would take two immodium after your first BM's on the days that you are flying. For vacation I would play it by ear. If you are feeling fine don't take it. If you are going somewhere (like hiking or something) where there is limited bathroom, then take it. If you feel like you are going to keep going then take it. I like that you bought the anti-gas one. That works best for me.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).

molly - I never heard of Lomotil until I came here.  I have no idea about it - think it is prescription, right.  I have used Imodium for years for diarrhea connected with IBS - long before UC.  My doctor now says as long as I use common sense and using UC medication it is ok.  He also told me I could take pepto bismal occasionally for nausea.   Some do not recommend either.  I no longer have diarrhea but use Imodium when traveling or spending a day away from many toilets.  It gives one peace of mind I guess if nothing else.  It definitely stops diarrhea for me when I overeat or something affecting my IBS - nothing to do with UC - so much fun having both - and GERD!!

Right now trying soooo hard to get into remission.  Tapering prednisone - 4th week on 20 mg. and then two weeks on 15 mg. etc.  Doctor added 6MP 3 weeks ago so kept me on 20 mg. for longer than usual.  Unfortunately, 4 days after starting prednisone the bleeding stopped but returned second week on 20 mg.  I have slight symptoms other than my BM's are streaked with mucous/blood - formed - normal otherwise and only 2 or 3 at most a day.  No cramping, no pain, slight rectal discomform at times - and gas (which I take gasX for).  Hoping 6 MP kicks in SOON!!

Yes, Lomotil is by prescription.  I have used it all along.  I have never used Immodium.  I am tapering down on my Prednisone now too and added the 6MP on Wednesday.  I'm not having blood or diahrrea, but in the mornings the urgency to go, but really go just a little to keep being annoying, because at times really don't feel like I could make it to the restroom, that is the part they are hoping can get under control with 6MP because that has always been a problem.   I have had severe bleeding at times, but not so much lately.  That is good.  I also have GERD and take Prilosec, sometimes Prevacid seems to do the job

I do a half lomitil when I get up three hours before leaving. Finish other half 2 hours later. Play a second one by ear, maybe an hour into flight I do another half. Lomitil will take an hour at least to start working for me.

What dose of doses of prednisone and 6MP are you on?  I don't have the urgency anymore and doctor said he thought I was responding to 6MP sooner than some do - I hope.  NO bleeding - just blood mixed with mucous - no red blood at all.  I have inflammation about a foot up the left side last test.

Two immodium might make you uncomfortable because it could shut you down completely, for a while. If I do that -- and sometime it's necessary for certain activities -- then all I get is gas and blood for a day or so, no poo and feel like I need to go but can't. Ugh. Try one, then take another if you think it's not doing enough, is my advice. Try not to take more than you need to. And take it in the morning after you have eaten and voided all you think you can in the morning, not as soon as you get up. Otherwise you might feel "full" all day.

I hope it works for you. Have a great trip!
