Is this from the Prednisone or the UC? Im on 40mg prednisone and back to spending my days in bed from weakness. I thought I was getting better when the frequency of my BMS was reduced from 15 to 6.
I go to my regular doctor tomorrow and my GI on Thursday.

Today I just can't get enough SUGAR! I'm also sweating like crazy and running a low fever!

Ugggh!

I read the title of your post and said "she's on Presnisone." The bad news is, that sugar craving can be just the tip of the iceberg, because pred can induce type II diabetes. Have your regular doc check for this.

Well at least I know its the prednisone then. Seriously I thought I'd kill someone today if I didn't get more cake or cookies and I'm on a DIET! Ugghhh! The prednisone is really screwing with my appetite. I H-A-T-E prednisone! I swear I'm the only UC sufferer that doesn't lose weight! I did lose 7 lbs right before being hospitalized only to find out that it was just dehydration because upon being released (and being on a clear liquid diet in the hospital) I had regained every pound!

I'm with you; I've never lost weight either, only gained it from steroids. The one potential benefit of having this DD, and we miss out on it!

Are you talking about me again? Tired, extreme fatigue, achy, red eyes, blotchy skin, night sweats. Sometimes the thought of eatting turns me off , but hey is that a doughnut? I think some of it is the prednisone but UC reeks havoc on our bodies .
I'm on 60 mg pred
8 colozol tabs
150 Mg 6 mp
Ambien
None of which by the way are working.
Thinking surgery.

At least I'm not alone! I feel like I'm nuts with all of these ridiculous symptoms! The sweating, the ravenous hunger, the weakness and tiredness! ugghh! I'll be so excited when I'm in remission so I can
stop eating myself out of house and home! lol!

I gained weight during my last two flares. The first time due to the Prednisone. The second time due to eating lots of rice with curry chicken. The turmeric would calm my inflammation. I was eating rice and curry chicken all the time.

Thank goodness, I'm no longer flaring and am almost back down to normal.

Don't expect your doctor to cure your health problems. Your health is your responsibility.

Lexapro (for stress), Probiotics and Vitamins (a whole bunch of them)
Avoid HFCS, foods high in fructose, artificial sweeteners
When flaring: eat anti-inflammatory foods, avoid pro-inflammatory foods
Previous treatments: Fecal transplantation (worked), Prednisone (stopped working), Colazal (stopped working), Asacol (stopped working)

During the day, my hunger pangs hit every couple of hours. I'm trying to eat lighter meals and save some food back for when they hit me again.

But the sweets craving is a new thing! I don't remember that before, and it is INTENSE!
I actually drove to the grocery store just to get one frosted doughnut (with sprikles), I was so desperate for cake. I didn't care that it was made with wheat.

I had just lost about 12 pounds but now I've gained back about three pounds. I know I need to try to go lo-carb to keep it under control. But the sugar is a problem! Sometimes Redi-whip with cocoa powder will satsify it...
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated all wheat/gluten from my diet. Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), trying Curamin.
Flaring, seasonal? or supplements too harsh? Back on prednisone, tried to taper but now back up to 20-30 after several really bad days. Waiting for insurance decison on Humira...soon...

Check out the book Coping With Prednisone. It can really help you deal with the cravings and other pred-induced weird symptoms. I found it at my local library.

Rather than "must... not... give... in," try "sugar... will... feed... the bad... gut... bugs... and make... me... feel... worse..."

Not to mention increased bloating, suppresed immune system, etc.

I feel like pred is the evil monster that is forcing me to eat even though I know it will hurt so badly on the way out, but at the moment I must have it despite the punishment!
