I had a B12 blood draw done yesterday afternoon.  The order did not say anything about fasting nor did the people at the lab.  Needless to say I did the test in the afternoon and did not fast.  I just read online that you should not eat or dring for 6-8 hours before this test.

So, did I just waste my time and money having this test done?  How much would eating lunch affect the test results?

I wouldn't worry about it at this point....but you should ask the doc or call the lab and enquire. If yours is low....at least you have "some" stores, and the fact that you ate might skew the results only a small amount.

Maybe next time, do a fast and do the test in the morning before eating.

The results came back at 586 so I guess there is no issue with the B12 at this point. I'm still waiting on the results of all the other vitamin levels that he tested.
