If I don't manage my flare too well, I was wondering how short a short course of pred could be? How do you do it?

I don't think you can predict how long the course will be until you start it. I was on a normal/quick course and I ended up having trouble when I got down to 2.5mg and now I had to contiune the course much longer than expected. I would imagine 1-2 months would be quick when tapering from 40mg. The question is, will you be healed enough after 1 month that you're able to stop completely without flaring up again?
March 2007: Diagnosed with mild proctitis - Treated with Canasa (as needed)
August 08 - December 08: Relapse & Anemic - Treated with Asacol (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day
January 09 - December 09: Remission!! Canasa nightly + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
December 09 - January 10: Flare :(
Current: 10mg prednisone, 9 Asacol, Canasa

The 2 times I have been on pred it was 3-4 weeks. I think the normal course is 12 weeks.

I was only on it for a month and a half. However, I stayed at my lowest dose (10 mg every other day) for quite a few weeks, because I had an interview I wanted to get through before quitting entirely, just in case. If it hadn't been for that, I'd have been on it just barely over a month, I think. IMO, that's pretty quick, compared to what I see on here.

But as NNSG says, it all depends on how you respond to it. My doc and I decided it was worth a shot to see if it worked for me.

Honestly, you don't need to be thinking about pred yet. Give the enemas some time!

Fruitgirl, I'm fading fast and my colon is burning. I'm excremating a bit more, relative to the little I'm eating, and it's not easy to keep up with my fluids. I'm losing weight too.

I see the enemas working though and I see a lifetime commitment there-- no problem. But higher up is the problem now.

The rectum is still going to put out what it's given, whether it's inflamed or not. There's no pain or blood at the moment. Just the colon hurts and I feel weak from diarrhea.
