OMG! Do not take Melatonin! The bottles say to check with your doctor if you have an autoimmune disease and they are not kidding! I was doing pretty well on the Remicade infusions and then, boom, I started bleeding and have UC symptoms again. I always have trouble sleeping so I thought I should try Melatonin again, something I used to take occasionally. HUGE mistake! Not worth it! cry

This is interesting to me. A MD that I have, who is supposed to be just the best, prescribed me a supplement that includes melatonin and he knows all about my UC--
Thanks,

Well, now I'm in a full-blown flare up. It was not worth it.

It just goes to show that everyone is different and no two bodies are the same. However, if a supplement says to check with your doctor if you have an autoimmune disorder, I suggest erring on the side of caution.

Thanks! Good information. My mom takes melatonin to help with her sleep and was just visiting and and we were talking about it a week ago. I like the idea of a natural supplement but I guess I will stick to my Tylenol PM. Thanks for the warning!

Whenever I have an important appointment very early in the morning than I take 20mg of melatonin the evening before. Taking 20mg of melatonin is the only thing that works for me in preventing the frequent morning toilet visits. I take melatonin every evening without any problems

Mudua, Thanks for your input too. I guess it is just one of those individual things.

Ditto on "everybody is different" theme - I've been using 1-3mg of melatonin per night (includes B6 as well) and I was shocked by the improvement in my UC symptoms.

On a par with the improvement brought about by mesalamine and psyllium.
