I accidentally left my Ultimate Flora Critical Care capsules out on the counter from about 9pm to 730am this morning...they are supposed to be refrigerated.

Are they still OK to take?

I'm sure they are - even the VSL says it can be left at room temp for a while day without problem.
I never refrigerated my first jar of UFCC ....never occurred to me, since it had not been refrigerated in the store.... and it was still beneficial.

I doubt you would get sick from probiotics, heat simply kills the bacteria and it's in effect taking an empty pill if that happens. However, many probiotics survive fine at room temperature for a while, which I think translates to 72 degrees Fahrenheit and below, now if they get stored at 80 or above for a few hours, they are pretty much dead. Some probiotic companies, Florastor I believe is one, actually recommend room temperature storage over refrigeration, but considering the temperature in my home can go from 60 to 80 in the course of a day, I never take the risk.

Most probiotics are shelf stable and not not shipped or stored in a cold pack. I remember once i was at whole foods and I told the vitamin saleslady that I liked buying probiotcs there because they are refridgerated and she told me they don't receive them cold. That's when I started shopping online.

Worse case scenario is that they will be ineffective. You won't get sick by taking them.

This is why I switched to shelf stable. I never have to worry about refrigeration, travel, etc.

I have left mine out before and they didnt make me sick. I felt no difference after leaving them out. They still were as effective as before.

I've done it a few times as well....It would be different if you left them in the dead heat of summer.

They won't make you sick or (where the heck did you hear this???)grow mould in your body.

They're fine....maybe you'll lose a couple hundred thousand bacteria. We're talking a drop in the bucket. Besides, you take two at a time....eh, don't worry so much about things that aren't true.

*Heather* I give suggestions, do with them what you will.
