I am wondering if anyone here has any experience with this. I started taking the generic for Zoloft, Sertraline, three weeks ago for depression. I have already gone through many side effects from the Zoloft that I have gotten over but I am having horrible jaw clenching which is causing pain. It is also making my head and neck hurt. It is a tensed feeling. I googled and found that this is a fairly common symptom with SSRI's and I am hoping it is one of those side effects that will pass. Has anyone else had this and did it go away once your system got use to the medication? I posted on the Depression forum but it is not as active and I know everyone here better. I appreciate any insight or advice anyone has to offer. Thanks!

I just noticed Monday that I've been clenching my jaw a lot lately too and I started venlafaxine (effexor) again two weeks ago. Hmm...

I am not on any of those meds and I have bad jaw clenching. I always have. I think it has to do with anxiet and tension. Please let me know if you find any info on this jaw clenching. I also have a situation where my jaw cracks. i think it's TMJ.

I don't take an SSRI but I have been clenching my teeth for a long time. If in the event that this doesn't subside, ask your dentist to make you a custom fit night mouth guard. It helps tremendously with the jaw, neck and head pain.

Red-34, Thanks. I have a dentist appointment in April so I will talk to her about it if it is still bothering me then. I have been trying to cut back on coffee as I believe the caffeine is aggravating it. It actually seems to bother me more during the day then during the night. It builds throughout the day. When I sleep I seem to relax; though last night I woke up with really bad anxiety and a mini-panic attack.

The mouth guard can be worn during the day too. It looks a bit like a retainer like the one you would get after having braces. I've had to wear mine during the day too.

My dentist said I need a mouthguard but my insurance won't cover it and it's $600.

Notso, you can also get them at your local pharmacy. They make some that you can custom mold yourself...I think you boil them in water and mold them to your teeth. They're not that expensive either.
