Should a person avoid extreme or prolonged sun exposure when taking these two drugs?  My son is supposed to go on boating outing at his camp and will be in the sun (90 degrees) for 8 hours.  I put SPF 30 all over him, but am concerned it wont be enough if the meds are making him more sensitive to the sun.   He has blistered from the sun twice in the last 3 months (since on predisone) and that's the only connection I can make, since he has grown up in FL and never had that happen before.

Thanks!!

Don't know about remicade? but im on 6-mp high dose, 40mg prednisone, 4g pentasa and I go on sunbeds twice a week, but starting pinning melanotan 2 next week along with a couple of sunbeds. I've been hitting sunbeds for a while and tbh I think the drugs help advance the tan haha as I tan easier then ever.

But yeah I don't think theres a problem? they say you shouldn't whilst on azathioprin but when I was on it I still went on the sunbed.

If your really worried maybe just get a high factor cream on him?

I used to get itch all over when I was in the sun.  No sunburn or rash, it was weird.  First time it happened was in Hawaii, I ended up in the emergengy room after a sleepless night.  They gave me IV Benadryl and I was OK after a few hours.  I was on 6mp and Asacol at the time.

I ended up buying hats and long sleeve shirts for the rest of my vacation in Hawaii!

^Infact now that you say that I suffer from this problem every so often where I get this HORRENDUS itching like all over my legs and I swear you can't help but itch it it's so fkn bad and you end up causing bleeding as you scratch so much. Not sure if it was related to the drugs or it's from the sun exposure? comes and goes every so often.

I'm on Remicade and I burn like a crisp. But, I'm also on Apriso, Canasa and Pristiq so I'm not sure it's the Remicade. Will he reapply sunscreen? Does he have protective clothing?

i never noticed any difference between meds and the effect of prolonged sun exposure on me... I love the outdoors and although I am not fair skinned, I can still get a sunburn on my chest or back if I overdo it in one day, but whether I was on remi, humira, imuran or high dose steroids, or nothing at all as is the case now, it never made any difference to my sun sensitivity.

There's definitely a correlation between either remicade/prednisone and sensitivity to the sun. I want to say it is the prednisone. I am down to 30mg. Love to lay out in the sun. Can only do so for 45min max every couple days because I have been burning so bad. Can't wait to be off the pred. Prior to the pred I could spend hours at the pool/beach and rarely ever burned. I hope your son does alright on the boat.
