Anyone out there have any experience or knowledge of Milk Thistle?
I've read that there are studies that show it regenerates liver cells and promotes liver health.
With all the meds we have to take day after day, I feel that we all need a little help in the liver department.
I am just wondering if there are any GI issues with taking milk thistle every day or any interaction issues I should know about.
Thanks

I take milk thistle sometimes, mostly when I was flaring. It is protective from some of the side effects of flares. And when I was flaring I was lucky enough to get many of the bad side effects or EILs. This thread has good information:

Male/59 DX ulcerative colitis Feb08, possible Crohn's colitis DX Mar10.
No Meds, allergic to Mesalamine. Remission since Mar10. Psyllium seed mixed with VSL3 especially helpful. Food journal instead of SCD.

Multivitamin, extra D3, K2, high gamma E, probiotics, fish oil, glutamine, magnesium, phos choline, resveratrol, S. Boulardii, boswellia, curcumin. Watch gluten, lots of fruit & vegetables (but no plums or kale), no soda, no HFCS, no trans fat, tea instead of coffee, no shellfish, few processed foods, no carrageenan.

I took it for a while, on and off. I don't take it at the moment, however.

I didn't notice any ill effects, however. My liver is still doing fine...

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) 300mg, milk thistle, and B Complex is what's been recommended to clean the liver from the drugs and help protect the liver. I think the ALA is helping with me not having Pred side effects...at least so far. On week 5 of Pred and doing ok.
