Hello, first post to the forum after joining today. I was diagnosed with UC this summer and my wife and I are learning as much as we can to heal/help my condition naturally. Any feedback from using cabbage juice (Vitamin U) to help UC?

According to Michael T. Murray, ND, studies done at Stanford University's School of Medicine on cabbage juice and ulcerative colitis showed healing of ulcerative colitis within seven days after beginning cabbage juice consumption

Hi Welcome! One thing I know about cabbage juice is it would send me to the bathroom with diarrhea. Other than that, I've heard something about it being good for UC.

What meds are you on now?
In remission --pancolitis since 8/09. 8 Asacol, Canasa or Rowasa daily, Probiotic -RenewLife Ultimate Flora Critical Care+Primadophilus Reuteri capsules, vitamins, calcium, l-acetyl carnitine. Eat all, but limit dairy, red meat, citrus, NO alcohol. Bipolar/anxiety/depression: lamictal, Lexapro; wellbutrin, Sleep-(ZMA) zinc-magnesium-B6, occasional Zyprexa

I've tried it in the past but not using it currently. From past discussions (there's a search bar above right) it seems to be an individual preference. Some people don't have a problem with it (in moderation) and others it causes lots of gas and D.

I used it because of the studies suggesting it's beneficial. Ultimately it did not produce remission for me but it also didn't harm me, except when I went overboard and had too much. But then my colon barks when I have too much of almost anything and sometimes it's "safe" foods/drinks.

I bought a juicer just to make veggie juices and still use it. I would start cautiously with small amounts. Juice of any kind is very powerful because you are removing the fiber which moderates the power. Good luck with it. It's healthy for you, you'll find out what your colon thinks.
In remission April 2010 after 10 years of UC with no remission ever
Jan 2010 began SpecCarbDiet (modified to remove dairy, fruit & juices,)
Gluten-free=bleeding stopped in 3 days, 95% remission in 5.5 months on SCD
SCDiet: Gluten/grain-free, starch-free, low carb, honey as sweetener
(9)Balsalazide+(6)Citrucel, mesalamine enema as needed
Spinach & sunflower seeds daily, (1) VSL#3 nightly

Given that cruciferous vegetables give me really stinky gas (which I deal with, b/c it's not that big of a deal to me), I can't imagine how bad it would be if I drank cabbage juice!
Status: Remission since May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Meds: Apriso (4 0.375g pills ONCE!! daily), mesalamine enema twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, multivitamin.  Used prednisone (starting dose 40 mg) to get into remission.

Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at 21 (Jan 2011) and now pancolitis (May 2011).
medications: 20 mg prednisone, 50 mg 6mp, prilosec as needed, and a crapload of vitamins and minerals. had my first remicade infusion aug 29, 2011. next infusion is september 12.

main goal- get up to 110 lbs eventually. weight right now is 95 lbs at 5'5" so i'd like to gain a lot of muscle.

I love doing veggie juice, but cabbage gave me horrible gas. I would consider trying it again, in very small amounts along with other veggies.

With anything you're experimenting with, it is good to start slowly and see how your body reacts.
