Are you eating GMO foods?

Eating GMO foods has serious health consequences for us and future generations. You can read about it here:

"...Genetically engineered seeds are banned in Hungary, as they are in several other European countries, such as Germany and Ireland. Peru is also following the precautionary principle, and has even passed a law that bans genetically modified ingredients within the nation for 10 years.

In the United States, certain states are passing legislation that protects the use of GM seeds and allows for unabated expansion. To date, 14 states have passed such legislation and Michigan's Sen. Bill 777, if passed, would make that 15. The Michigan bill would prevent anti-GMO laws and would remove "any authority local governments may have to adopt and enforce ordinances that prohibit or regulate the labeling, sale, storage, transportation, distribution, use, or planting of agricultural, vegetable, flower or forest tree seeds."

"Monsanto...After all, if you own the rights to all the food grown everywhere, you literally rule the world ..."

Here's your guide to non-GMO foods, which also has a free app:

How can you avoid GMO foods?

First and foremost, avoid buying GM foods! Since the industry has so far successfully squelched every attempt at getting genetically engineered foods labeled, avoiding them requires you to be an educated consumer.

  • Print out the Non-GMO Shopping Guide and refer to it often. It can help you identify and avoid foods with GMOs. You can also download the free iPhone application that is available in the iTunes store. You can find it by searching for ShopNoGMO in the applications.
  • Better yet, always buy USDA 100% Organic products when possible, as these do not permit GM ingredients, or buy whole fresh produce and meat from local farmers. The majority of the GMO's you're exposed to are via processed foods, so by cooking from scratch with whole foods, you can be sure you're not inadvertently consuming something laced with GM ingredients.
  • When you do purchase processed food, avoid products containing anything related to corn or soy that are not 100 percent organic, as any foods containing these two non-organic ingredients are virtually guaranteed to contain genetically engineered ingredients, as well as toxic herbicide residues.

Thanks for this post.

Although I do not support all claims made by Dr. Mercola in the article, I do support the notion that majority of the GM crops made by Monsanto aren't helping the purpose. There is enough food in this world but the distribution is pretty skewed, with majority of the developed world wasting more food than they eat, we need a better distribution system.

Non-GMO shopping Guide is pretty good website. I hope they come up with an Android app too. I would use it all the time.
Diagnosed March 2007 with left sided UC at the age of 30.
Currently on,
Colazal 9 daily, Imuran, 200mg daily, Vit. B12, 1mg, Multivitamin, 1 tablet daily, Fish oil 2400mg daily, Vit D 2000 IU daily, Butterbur 150mg daily.

Verapamil 240mg for migraine, Migraine episode now at least twice a month,
Ibuprofen 400mg is the only solution (but leads to bleeding). Looking for alternatives.

Are you eating GMO foods?

Most likely. I can just visualize future generations with 6 toes and and an extra eye in the middle of their foreheads.
(Something like the critters on the Simpsons show) :-(

We would not need a non-GMO shopping guide if the GMO foods were properly labelled. I don't see how the anti-labeling laws are constitutional (but with the current Supreme Court anything is possible). At any rate a little public outrage and I am sure the evil agricultural empire will back off. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

It is good that Dr. Mercola advocates for health issues but I really don't like him. He does give out valuable information but all that info is freely available from other sources. I think he is more interested in fattening his wallet than making the country healthier. First of all if he is so interested in promoting health issues why does he keep the health information hidden from public view and unavailable unless you log onto his website?

And I really don't like how his health information so smoothly dovetails with the products he sells. He will talk about how krill oil is superior to fish oil (which is BS) but he just happens to sell krill oil. The same way that GlaxoSmithKline says their prescription Lovaza fish oil is superior to regular fish oil because it is 10 times the price.

As with most health practitioners he has advocated taking vitamin D. But now he confesses that he has overdosed on oral vitamin D capsules and prefers getting D from sunlight. (Nature has controls that prevent D overdosing from sunlight). So he recommends buying one of his tanning beds with special and safe UV rays for $2,000 to $3,000. Vitamin D from his tanning beds is 'sulfated' as opposed to 'unsulfated' D from oral pills. Give me a break.

His newsletter this week takes the cake:
"Recent Study Shows if You Exercise this Way
You May Risk Serious Damage to Your Heart"
At the end of the article he just happens to sell exercise equipment that will not damage your heart, only it costs costs from $2,000 to $5,000. I have to get one before I damage my heart with all the exercise I perform every day.

Now that he sells astaxanthin it is the best thing since sliced bread. Of course his particular brand is superior to all others. Mercola definitely puts out some good information, but I think it is to build up his credibility for selling his products to the public.

I dont want to raise kids in this world for health reasons. My mom did such an amazing job raising us with most organic foods, not allowing fruit roll-ups, toaster pastries or sugary cereals, she did an amazing job... but i just don't think I could bare to raise a kid and try to teach them the best of why health is so crucial (especially at this point in time), and then have them make their own decisions and trust even some of the nicest promoted products that actually contain GMO's or other altered ingredients. It's a terrible time in the economy, but even more so with health in America I think.

Since going SCD, its so hard for me to sit back and watch TV, or go outside without having to see a commercial or billboard on the fattiest most disgusting piece of trash food you can buy, and yet i crave it because I know i cant have it, but it calls me.

I feel like the worst part is, is that people need to take a class or need to be taught how to go grocery shopping and read labels. I don't just mean understanding what vitamin B-12 does for your body, but understand how labels are deceiving us for money and THEY are the culprits who have absolutely no interest in our health, but just means for a fast buck in their business.

The Global GMO Truth Alliance is lobbying hard to get GMO foods labeled in the supermarkets.

I understand what you're saying. I think he brings to the forefront alot of important info most doctors are NOT aware of and don't want to share, so I find his info invaluable.
