Hi,

I am currently taking 15mg of prednisone along with 6mp and antibiotics, and I feel weak and low on energy. I am still not in remission yet, but my doctor is having me dose down on the prednisone 5mg a week, and I have been on 15mg for 5 days now. I am going to finish the dosage of antibiotics I was given in 1 more day and I am worried that if I go down another 5mg I would get worse. Right now I am taking 10mg in the morning and 5mg at night so that way the prednisone is cycled through my body throughout the day. So when I get to 10mg in 2 days, would it be better if I take 5 in the morning and 5 at night? Also, a while ago, when I was on lialda and in remission, my doctor had me taper down on the prednisones until I got down to taking only 10mg in the morning and that's when I flared up. Then after that I had to go back up to 25mg and that's when he started me on 100mg of 6mp. I was well for a little while after that (In remission), than flared up again...that's when he gave me the antibiotics (metranidazole 500mg) and reduced the dosage of the 6mp I'm taking to 75mg. So my biggest worry right now is that I don't want to get any worse than I am now. I don't have any blood in the stool right now but every now and than I see a little blood, i've been like this for 2 months now, and I'm feeling weak and low on energy, I'm worried that tapering down the prednisone will make me worse. It'd be great if I can get some thoughts on this. thank you!

I know my naturopath suggest supplementing with licorice root (black liquid kind) when on Prednisone and taking more when you are tapering. It helps with cortisol and adrenals. NOt sure if it will help you not flare but it might help deal with the exhaustion. He did say the licorice root helps extend the half life of the Prednisone so it stays in your body longer.

I have been on Prednisone for 3 months and each time I taper I am totally exhausted! The Pred gives me a buzz so I don't really sleep but I am so wiped out the first couple of days it is hard to get out of bed. I am at 20mg now. How are you sleeping at night?

I am also tapering. I was on 40mg for 3 weeks and 30 last 2 weeks and will start going down 5mg each week. The only side effect I have noticed is joint pain... Very bad joint pain and exhaustion in the afternoon. Will this get worse each taper and will anything new pop up? Also it seems everyone flares up again around 10mg. How common is this?!
