Here comes my seemingly bi-daily post about prednisone. Today I went to the gym for the first time in 2months and was horrified by how I looked in the mirrors, I know, I know. It goes away. The moonface is depressing and the weight gain around my abs, on my chest, equally horrifying.

When does the weight start going away? How quickly will it go away? (Started 40mg Pred feb27. Down to 15MG tomorrow.)
VSL3 DS - 3X a day
6MP - 25MG
Court Enema - 1X a day.
Allopurinol- 100MG
LDN - 4.5MG (Started on 3/23/12)
Fish Oil 3X a day
Liquid Multivitamin
Prilosec
Prednisone 20MG Daily - Tapering 5mg a week.

brian, at least you are starting to work out again! that's great, especially when you feel like crap. just do a lot of high intensity cardio intervals and i think you'll see a difference.

my gain and loss was pretty dramatic on prednisone. i went from 92 lbs to 127 lbs in two days. it was insane the amount of water i gained. when i dropped down to 35 mg from 40 mg, i ended up losing all my weight in about two days again dropping down to 90 lbs. it was all through sweat and urine. i never had a fat/muscle gain on prednisone though. just all fluids.

current meds: flagyl for 10 days and then hopefully doing fecal transplant! also have some LDN as a backup plan if fecal transplant doens't help
things i've tried- canasa supps, prednisone, 6mp, remicade, rowasa, lialda, cortico enemas, l-glutamine, vit e enema, VSL enema, aloe vera juice, slippery elm, n-acytel glucosamine

I gained alot of weight on pred. Wish it had just been water. None of it came off till I was off the pred completely. Moon face started going away within 2 weeks I think. The rest is still a work in progress.

Currently taking Lialda 2 tabs in am, Protonix 40mg every day, Allegra, Zyrtec, Probiotics, Vitamin D3, Melatonin and Rowasa enema once a week.

Currently in Remission since June 2011. I seem to flare yearly Dec/Jan time frame. Hoping this winter to be different since I'm not working.

For me once I get below 10 mg I feel like things start to slim down a little, but I don't feel like I totally lose the puffy look on my gut arms and face until I am totally off.
Diagnosed with Crohn's in 1998, father has UC we were both diagnosed at 20 yrs old. Diagnosis changed to UC Sept 2011

Meds ~ mesalamine enema every other night, 2.5 mg Prednisone, 3 Lialda/day, weekly Humira
Supps ~ Daily cup of Matcha, Chia Seeds, folic acid, D3, Flintstone chewable for iron.

Don't worry, you'll lose it. Actually this is a great time of year to be winding down your course of pred. You'll have all summer to get back in shape. I don't even bother going to the gym while I'm still taking the drug, but once I'm off it I start training pretty hard.

The first time I was on pred, it didn't start to come down until after I was off of it completely. The moon face goes away on it's own within a couple months of your last dose, but if you gained weight overall, you will probably have to work to get that off. If you're used to working out, though, it should be pretty easy for you. This is my third round of pred this year. I am an athlete as well, and I have a whole post dedicated to it in my blog if you want to read about how I'm trying to battle the weight gain and muscle disintegration. I just dropped to 5mg last Friday (from 40mg in January) and I think (probably hope is more like it) I'm finally noticing my face looks less puffy.  The little extra whatever around my waist seems to be disappearing too, although I think I'm the only one who ever noticed it.

It's so great you are back at the gym!  I've been back since Feb myself and just started getting back to cardio classes a few weeks ago.  It may just be in my head, but I swear it helps with tapering the Prednisone. I know that doing a strenuous workout does raise your cortisol level a bit, so I feel like maybe it helps me get through the tapering by counteracting it a little - probably more at the lower doses anyway.  I know I definitely have been feeling better after I get done with a good workout.  I hope it helps you feel better too!
