I have had a bottle of pills containing apple pecting, charcoal and clay for years but never used it.

I bought the terramin clay and have been using it since halting doxycycline for wasp stings. I think its great, there is also a study it helped astronauts increase bone density. It definately does not hurt and I am going to try to take it until its gone. Hard part is that I am eating protein every three hours so I take this usually in the middle of the night if I remember to.

lol lol, I know...but jeez I hate rectal meds. The action of actually doing it myself, I hate that. Wish someone would do it for me. I don't mind having colonoscopies, and I'm not even sedated for those cause I want to see.

And I can't hold them for long...sigh.

well, it's difficult at first, maybe get those sphincter muscles working and white knuckle it through the first few minutes of having the feeling to let it all go.

I used to have extreme nausea when using them...counted 90 seconds, felt like an hour.

I hate using them as well...it is what it is, but I have a good track record using them ..I don't have pancolitis, however, but fruitgirl does she's a huge proponent of rectal meds as well.

But...I'd never use clay...go figure.

Hey Edbar,

I used the clay twice for about 5 days each time (i think the first time was longer maybe 7 days)...it stops or greatly reduced the blood for me especially the first time i used it. i stopped it because for some reason i was getting pretty bad cramping and pain with it. I have always been sensitive to iron supplements and i know that Terramin clay has way tooo much iron. So i found myself in a catch 22 situation: blood or bad cramping in the morning? i chose to come off it. Especially when i started to get the cramps after meals as well.

If you wanna try it let me know; i still have it sitting in my pantry. I payed $110 *gulp* for the 4 Ib bag plus shipping to australia!!! i just feel sorry for my husband's credit card!!

I appreciate all suggestions from everyone to try something that worked for them, because you never know it may work for me or you. But for me, the clay it didn't do much for me either. Neither has LDN, as far as I know but I'm still taking it. L Theronine has helped by just giving me great sleep! So I'll keep taking that. My colazal well I take that but rectal meds like canasa really help. Antibiotics didn't work, probiotics seem to help I would say, but no way does the trick, no coconut oil, no fiber, and the list goes on and on and on......has been a cure or remission for me yet :( still trying new things!

Meds help if you can tolerate them!

Hi all.

Its been a few years since I've posted here. I came back looking for an alternate to the Redmond clay I happened upon by accident because the sodium in it seems to be causing problems. I got a sample a little over 2 months ago and had marked difference in my daily diarrhea within days so I purchased some and have been using 2-3 teaspoons a day since. I've been sipping it throughout the day, when I finish one, I refill my water bottle with regular water. The time after that I use a new bottle with fresh clay and so on. I didn't realize I should use just on an empty stomach or away from medications, but that hasn't seemed to be a problem.

Truthfully, I hadn't realized just how well it was working until I tried stopping it a couple days ago. I still get watery diarrhea occasionally, but for the first time in over a decade I've gotten almost formed stools. Its helped with the pain quite a bit too, and I've had more energy.

The only problem is that I've been retaining fluids to a very large extent, and I'm worried about taking in so much sodium on a long term basis. The fluid retention is so bad in my abdomen that my physical therapist is having trouble getting at the muscles she needs to release and its affecting the pressure sensitivity I have from the unrelated muscle damage there. Its probably gathering there most because I am 90% bedridden due to muscle damage.

From reading past posts here, it seems the sodium bentonite clay like the Redmond is not recommended for UC so I have another reason to try a different type. I'm planning on ordering some Pascalite tomorrow and seeing how that works.

Background - I haven't had bleeding for the past year but daily diarrhea and frequency for over 10 years. I'm on Asacol and drink inner fillet Aloe gel 1-2 times a day (which helps me a great deal).
