This morning (within a span of 2 - 3 hours), I've had 3 BMs (usual for me is 1 or 2 for the day). The first two were formed when coming out but broke up into a mush after sitting in the toilet water for around 1 minute. The third was a mix of a clear bubbly viscous liquid with a few pieces of stool. Is that clear bubbly liquid mucus?

I have had this before but very rare (say 3 times in all of last year, not once this year). I can't recall having eaten anything wrong last night or this morning. I have been taking my meds as per usual. I do have an infected throat but that is slowly clearing up. I am currently living abroad in Shanghai (I am an Australian) so I am not sure whether the different weather, climate, polluted air could be causing some tummy upset. I've been very very careful with my food here (only buying takeaway from high class franchise restaurants and re-microwaving it before eating it at home).

I am not sure what that third BM represents. I am concerned especially because it's not normal but also because for the last week I've felt periods of my abdomen gurgling with increased urgency. Then I've had days where there were little to no issues at all (including only having 1 BM in the day).

Hi Max.....hard to totally say if it's food related. The reason is that your symptoms are continuing and increasing.  Maybe get stool samples done just to be sure you haven't picked up something.

Do you only have the suppositories? or do you have any enemas left? If you do, i'd suggest starting them nightly for at least a week and see if that improves.

Are you using any probiotics? Any fibre supplements?

Are you changing up your food daily or eating the same thing? If you're changing it up, I doubt it's the food.

Hope you feel better soon..

I don't have any enemas but I am doubtful my left side is affected mainly because I dont have any pain there and my colonoscopy in late August showed that area was normal. I am not using any fibre supplements but I am taking probiotics (freeze dried kind). I am eating various things each day but the food obviously is not always the same (except for breakfast which is usually porridge with pumpkin and honey but this has never caused me issues before).

I also have a little mucus with my stool (clear making the stool a little shiny) or no visible mucus. This time, 75% of the BM was just bubbly liquid which had me freaked. I know my entire colon (including cecum) is clear of inflammation, but I am not sure of my small intestines (though I read the mucus is less common with Crohns).

Since this started recently, there's no reason you wouldn't have developed some inflammation where you had it in the past regardless of your scope in August.

Maybe try upping the oral med to see if that helps? if your prescription says it's OK. You're on a fairly low dosage.

Bubbly liquid bms definitely means something isn't right. I think you're needing for sure to have stool samples checked.

What probiotics are you taking?

I'll get a stool sample once I return to Australia. I still don't think its colon inflammation (though I could be wrong of course). I am not sure about small bowel inflammation but I just have a strong feeling it isn't colon inflammation.

I just updated my signature. I am actually on 3 1 gram Pentasa tablets per day. Not sure if I should up that or not.

I am taking a probiotic from Australia... Blackmores Digestive Bio Balance (contains 200million Lactobacillus reuteri). My fiance started taking it last week too and she says it has relieved her constipation. I am hoping the probiotic is not making me have MORE BMs.

Just jumping in here (I have crohn's) I have had many periods of excessive mucous, more so when my CD was affecting both my small intestine and colon at the same time then it was tons of mucous issues....thing with the small intestines is, so many nooks and cranny's that you don't get 100% confirmation that there isn't any possible disease activity for that reason alone, compared to the colon and especially since they can scope you in the colon...have you ever had a pill cam? That at least to the best of my knowledge will get through all the nooks and cranny's throughout the small intestine, you'd be amazed at how just a bit of inlfammation somewhere in there can wreak havoc.
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Quincy: yep just one per day (as per the instructions). I started taking it 3 weeks ago. Haven't noticed a change in my symptoms.
Pb4: I agree. I haven't had a barium x-ray either. Not sure what's going on in there. Is a pill cam dangerous? My G.I doesn't think my small bowels need inspecting yet. I feel gurgling in my abdominal area. Could be something fishy in the small bowels. Did you have a lot of mucus when only your small bowel was affected?
This morning's BM was fine. No mucus, no blood, formed, small amount of gurgling.
Unfortunately when my small bowels were affected (when I first became sick) it was in my small intestines, colon, rectum and anus *perianal crohn's skin tags* my crohn's actually started externally with the tags when I was in my teens (had absolutely NO other IBD symptoms therefore it was sluffed off by all docs that saw my anus as being hemorrhoids) but when I became sick internally it was affecting all of the above mentioned at the same time...cleared up in my small intestine after 2 yrs (and has yet to return there) constant in my colon the entire 21 yrs as well as the anus and on and off in the rectum.
I personally have never had the pill cam but I have not heard or read anything negative about them....small bowel follow through and barium xrays and colonoscopies as well as one sigmoidoscopy are all the tests I've had (plus the usual blood/stool tests).
Do you happen to know what your pattern of inflammation was when they DX you with having CD and what tests they used for that DX?
Crohn's will have patchy inflammation---inflammation with healthy tissues skipping through inflammation and it also tends to go deeper in the mucosal lining....UC is all inflammation with no skipped pattern and is on the surface only, won't go through the layers like it often does with CD.
My G.I saw a few mild ulcers on my terminal ileum so said that my diagnosis MAY be Crohns instead of UC, but he is still not exactly sure. Prior the the terminal ileum ulcers, he was 100% sure I had UC because of the inflammation starting in the rectum and having a cecal patch. My biopsies didn't show the ulcers penetrating deep into the mucosal lining, just the surface. He wasn't able to see further into the small bowel beyond the terminal ileum but he didn't think it was necessary based on my current symptoms. Other than the colonoscopy, he hasn't performed any other tests on me for Crohns (despite me asking). He did a blood test on my vitamin B12 levels etc. but hasn't called back with the results, which over here, tends to mean they are normal.
I've had a stool test for parasites + c.diff. The parasites test came back clear but the c.diff test was not performed because they refused to perform it on a formed stool sample (saying c.diff is only present in diarrhea).
