Hi guys -

I had a feeling this would happen. My 6mp was lowered to about 75mgs back in November and my blood tests have been coming back that my therapeutic level was way too low for a few weeks now and I think I'm finally starting to see the effects of my low levels (past 3 days mucus and increased BMs). I'm back up to 100 mgs. Is this enough to make a difference? How long will it take to take effect? We lowered because my levels were increasing. I can't remember if I was at 100 or 150 mgs previously.

In the meantime what should I start on my diet? I have greek yogurt and grapes for my lunch. Is this ok? Carbs are ok, right? Bland though... Baked chicken? Do I do more protein or carbs or fruits and veggies?

I swear, you never really learn until you do this yourself. I'm going to give it to tomorrow and see how I feel, if still worsening I'm getting in with my GI. What do you guys think about the enemas? Can I use them just for flares? Am I going to be able to stop using them when I'm alright and use them for backup?

Is that my next step? My doctor talked about possible doing Humira and I just feel like we have some more options to explore. I've only done Lialda, Imuran, and 6mp. I take a probiotic but that is it.

Thank YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd definitely give mesalamine enemas a try. You can just use them for flares, but I also use them twice a week to maintain remission.

Good luck!
Symptomatic remission as of May 2009
Colonoscopy in Oct. 2011 showed no inflammation
Symptoms began in Nov. 2008, about 4 weeks after birth of first child
Diagnosed with pancolitis in Jan. 2009
Apriso (Four 0.375 g pills once daily), Mesalamine enema twice weekly, multivitamin, vitamin D, probiotic
Currently expecting second child, due in early March 2013

Which probiotic? 75-100 isnt really that much of a diff IMO. As for diet you have to try it on your own. See what feels good and bad for you. As for guidelines what your saying seems ok to eat. You should try juicing the fruits and veggies, the rest try baking not frying.

Did the Lialda do anything for you? What probiotic are you taking? Many here swear by enemas. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't do that much. If the enemas work well for you I would not just do them until remission and then stop. I would continue with them forever at some rate, even if only once a week or every two weeks. Future flares have a habit of getting harder and harder to treat so the main goal is to never have another flare.
