Are there any artificial sweetners or other stuff in it?

It could also be a strain of probiotic that doesn't agree with you. I can't eat Activia -- the probioitc strain they use is to help a "slow" digestive tract -- so it gives me diarrhea.
Symptomatic remission as of May 2009
Colonoscopy in Oct. 2011 showed no inflammation
Symptoms began in Nov. 2008, about 4 weeks after birth of first child
Diagnosed with pancolitis in Jan. 2009
Apriso (Four 0.375 g pills once daily), Mesalamine enema twice weekly, multivitamin, vitamin D, probiotic
Currently expecting second child, due in early March 2013

Oikos is what I've been eating..don't think there are artificial sweeteners, not that I can see..can't answer to what kind of probiotic is in it..

Might depend on which flavor you are eating, plain has nothing, while blueberry has all kinds of crap,as do some
of the other flavors.
Also you could be lactose intolerant,or the bacteria do not agree with you.
Click on the flavor you are eating then look at the ingridients.

One possible theory for UC is that our immune systems are attacking a "good" bacteria in our colons, causing inflammation and UC. If you ingest something, such as a probiotic (or yogurt), that has that very same "good" bacteria that your body is attacking, it could make you worse. This is one explanation why some people do good on certain probiotics and others have a bad reaction to that very same one.

I think it's because you're flaring and you're not on any/enough meds to deal with it.
Any yogurt gives me tons of gas/cramping...for sure if I had it daily.
There's more fat in greek yogurt, could be that it's too rich for you ? or that you're lactose intolerant.  If you're flaring...it matters not.

Get on more meds.

Greek yogurt usually isn't higher in fat -- there are plent of fat-free options out there. The reason it's thicker is because it's strained, not the fat content.

I guess I'm thinking the original greek yogurt...not the newly adjusted fitting to the masses kind.

I do far worse with yoghurt than any other dairy product. Never really worked out why.

The Dannon variety of Oikos (Stonyfield makes Oikos as well) has a bunch of thickeners and additives which might be upsetting you if that's what you have. But honestly my guess is that you're flaring, yogurt or not.

The least lactose will be in the highest fat yogurts- low fat yogurts need skim milk powder with its attendant extra lactose to keep it from being runny. Higher fat yogurt is also much healthier. I dont personally do well on amy dairy now, save a little organic pasteur butter. But when I tolerated yogurt, whole milk total fage greek yogurt was well tolerated (it is fermented for longer than copy brands) vs the pretender brands, or the 2% or 0% fage which has extra lactose.

Also, never eat yogurt with flavoring of any sort pre-mixed. Those require additives to prevent runniness, too. Get plain unflavored and mix in fruit or other flavoring at the time you eat it.

could be an infection like CDiff? not trying to scare you, but you should probably get some stool samples done if it doesn't clear up.

S. thermopolis is found in alot of commercial yogurts. I found the link I had to an immunologist who said to stay away from it but I did find one that explains why they use certain strains to make yogurt. It seems that S. Thermopolis competes with our native bacteria. It also activates pro inflammatory cytokins via th2 receptor. "Quote below from link.

"ยง Other factors that stimulate a Th2 response include a strain of bacteria, Streptococcus thermophilus, which is widely used in the making of commercial yogurt. Marin ML et al from Michigan State University found that streptococcus thermophilus significantly increased IL-6 production in macrophage lines. They also found that lactobacillus bulgaris and B. bifidum also increased IL-6, although less than S. thermophilus. (J Food Prot 1998 Jul;61(7):859-64). Most commercial yogurt have to add acidophilus and many also have S. thermophilus, which is not shown on the label. Perhaps eating yogurt may not be a good idea after all even though research shows that acidophilus inhibits tumor growth in laboratory animals (Nutr Cancer 1997;28(2):130-4). If the yogurt contains more thermophilus than acidophilus, Th2 cytokine response may dominate over the beneficial Th1 cytokines."

I avoid it myself.

GI called in flagyl, I see him on Monday..I really want to wait a day or two to start meds & see if the yogurt was to blame, it was dannon oikos, flavored, I was getting it free with coupons..and LOVE it. I had at least one a day, some days 2. The coupon came out on Jan 27th, so I can be pretty specific on when I started on it.

Chobani is higher in protein and I have enjoyed it but never eat the fruit. Vanilla with cinnamin is a treat.

However in the hospital I had plain old Dannon natural vanilla and did great until I got home. Now I am also transitioning from heparin IV to Lovanox shots to coumadin but went ahead and bought the dannon today plus they had dannon natural coffee flavor WOW.

That whole trip revealed my home alone daughter was not safe, so today we ripped out the security system and went with the best and even triggered the cops. 2200 bucks which will top out the hospital bill - annual bonus easy come easy go but good peace of mind now..
