I've started noticing these past few days my rib cage has been having some really bad discomfort... does this happen with anyone on prednisone...?

My back is also killing me

I quite often get pain in my ribs and back. My pain is sharp and worse when I breathe in deep. It usually lasts a few days and then just goes away. I am not on prednisone though. I have no idea what the pain is from!

I got this myself and it was trapped gas for me anyways. I would press and reb on my belly under my rib cage around the area and then it would release. I was worried at first but now that I know I watch for gassy foods and have been fine. I thought I would mention it but maybe this can be part of your issues. It was like a nagging ache under my rib cage.
Salofalk every other day down from 4 asacol 800 HD a day and Canasa as needed which was often in begining. (updated 4/10/13)
Daily multivitamin,l-lysine, cod oil, adding soy protien drink and vit C esterified.
Mbiotic diet with emphasis on lots of fresh organic greens especially spinach. Fresh fruit and berries. I eat liver at least twice a month. No gluten nuts seed

It could be costochondritis. Costo primarily affects the ribs near the breast bone but I get costo in the right back ribs. If it continues or becomes worse, you should go see your dr to be on the safe side.

With costco do you get pain when you breathe in? Because thats not the case its more of a pain that reaches from the right side of my rib cage to the middle of my back (if that makes sense)

No, with Costo it doesn't hurt to breathe...I had that when I had pleurisy. But it's a horrible pain, the Costo, its hard to describe but it's very uncomfortable.

I had pain there twice. The first time it was just front pain and I had bad blood values from my gallbladder/liver.

The second time I had pain just below my right breast along my ribcage that radiated to the back. It turned out to be shingles (another manifestation of chicken pox). It hurt quite a bit...hurt to breath, hurt to move, etc. Steroids make you more susceptible to shingles. If you develop a rash please go see a doctor ASAP. If you treat shingles early it will be less severe.

If I were you I would call my GI's office and tell them about the pain and ask if you should be checked out. That right side is the side of your gallbladder and whenever I reported pain in that area they would do bloodwork and/or do an ultrasound to make sure things were not inflamed.

It could also be a muscle pull (like a pulled intercostal muscle).
