For those of you who have had C Diff, did you have pain? How long after finishing the antibiotic did you get sick? Can you have semiformed stool and have it?

Also if I am being tested for C diff tomorrow would it be bad to take extra probiotics today?

yes, it was painful. I didn't take antibiotics before I got it, but I had just started humira two days before I started having symptoms.

my most prominent symptoms were extreme abdominal distention, bloody diarrhea, and high fever.

take as many probiotics as you can!! I haven't noticed a difference taking them at all and I've had c diff since January. I am taking high doses of culturelle and benebiotics (sacchara. boulardii).

Yes, you can have pain and occasional stools that are normal with C. diff. I had over a year of misery because my G.I. specialist was more interested in pushing immunosuppresive drugs than considering my failure to improve was due to C. diff.

In 2011 had a cyst for which I was prescribed multiple antibiotics. A week after completing the antibiotics I developed loose stools with bleeding that occurred with increasing frequency. about a month later I was diagnosed with UC. At that time, a C. diff. test was taken with negative results. I've since learned false negatives are not uncommon for C. diff tests, but whether or not I had it at the time is unclear.

A few months after being diagnosed with UC, I experienced severe inflammation of the rectal area followed by ongoing post stool mucus. I assumed this was not unusual for UC and tried to use Rowasa and other rectal meds with agonizing results. I reported this to my G.I. specialist, but he considered it merely a 'flare'.

After 18 months of ongoing rectal pain and bleeding, stools fluctuating between loose and firm, and post stool mucus, I asked my primary care physician for a new C. diff. test. I was desperate and wanted a new baseline of test results before seeking new treatment options. The results were positive for C. diff. toxins.

Following a two week course of Vancomycin my daily pain and bleeding were gone. Stools were consistently firm and the post stool mucus was greatly reduced. For over 50 years I had been a pretty healthy person and I believe my body was fighting the C. diff. for a long time. Sometimes my system was winning (firmer stools and less blood), and other times it was losing (loose stools and more blood). Unfortunately for me, two G.I. specialists who were there to 'help' me were more interested in following their template of care than listening to me and paying attention to the data I was sharing. My advice to everyone suffering from UC is to get tested for C. diff. on a regular basis. Don't rely on your specialists to recommend it.

I agree with Mr. Natural about getting tested I am sure my last flare was c diff from the beginning and not a flare at all.

I definitely had lots of pain right before a bm, during and after. I also hadn't been on any antibiotic before the c diff started, many of us have the c diff infection in us just waiting to activate.

As far as probiotics go it's up to you, usually you start them after you are finished any antibiotic, other wise you are basically flushing money and your probiotic away, although if you're not worried about that take them and you may get some benefit from taking them.

C diff was very painful for me, and came with bleeding and urgency and diarrhea, which nothing helps until I get antibiotics for it. I do believe you can have semi formed and have it. For me, it seems to start out of nowhere, but I believe it's been active in me the whole time I've had UC. I have had it 3 times in a year, every 4 months it seems to become active again. What a devil!

Hello there, I am a newbie to the site. But since I am currently dealing with C Diff, I thought I would chime in.

I was not on antibiotics when I tested positive. And yes, I had severe abdominal pain and cramping for several days. Formed BMs at first, then only a couple days of watery stuff. I also had severe abdominal distention.

Hope you feel better soon.
