Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and hoping you all can help me out.  Do any of you have kidney stones along with your UC.  I have had 2 episodes and I hate it.  I just found out that the colazal caps have 86 mg of sodium per tablet, so I am getting over a gram of sodium a day just in my meds.  My GI doc says that we have to treat the IBD first and worry about the kidney stones later.......any advice????
Wishing you all good health

I've had 2 episodes of stones and lithotripsy surgery for it.  I continue to make stones and just so happen to be dealing with an angry one right now.  I don't take Colazal and haven't ever.  I make calicuim stones.  I have done the 24 hour urine test stuff and it came up something like protein and something else were high.  I have even taken medicine to correct those things and the stones just keep coming.  I am supposed to see a nephrologist to figure out exactly why I keep getting them although my doctor is sure that people with UC/Crohn's are way more prone to them in general because of something like the way we metabolize calcium or something.  Maybe find out what kind of stones you make (your urologist would be able to analyze them).   I kind of agree with your GI in that the UC is way more urgent than the stones (unless you're in horrible pain).  Take care of that and then get on the stones.  Oh, and it's kind of funny (but not really if it's happening to you) but the more stones you make/pass, the easier it's supposed to be for your body to pass them rather than them causing a big issue each time.  I hope you can feel better soon!

I make calcium stones as well.  The first was calcium oxalate, the second calcium phosphate.  Mine are so big that they won't pass, I have to have surgery every time I get one.  I also did the 24 hour urine, and my calcium levels were almost double what they should be.  I have been told to cut back on foods containing a lot of calcium, and we are waiting 6 months to do a second 24 hour urine.  Seems silly to me to cut back on calcium when people with UC are more likely to get osteoporosis??

Hi,

Had major stones this year. Surgery for a stuck one then lithotripsy to clean out the other 6 stones. To be honest I wasn't staying hydrated due to diarrhea. I'm working a lot harder to stay hydrated.
