Hi all
I am a new user. I just googled FODMAPS and came across this post and wanted to add to it.
I too have had much success with the low FODMAP diet. And it sounds like I saw the same dietician. She still does research at Box Hill but doesnt practice from there anymore. I saw her in Prahran, Vic. I was recommended her and found her through the dieticians association www.daa.asn.au

My life has never been the same since.
So if you can relate to the food lists posted on this site then give it a go. You usually know within a month whether its going to make a difference or not.
Regards,
Jane with an irritable bowel

Reading this forum has been very helpful so far. I have severe abdominal pains and cramps along with constipation, I have been diagnosed with IBS (which doesn't really help with anything). I have had these pains for 3-4 years now, and I used to be very healthy. I have been told to try the FODMAP diet through a specialist.

Just a couple of questions with the diet,

Is tofu tolerated?
Are nuts (almond, peanuts, cashews) tolerated?
What do you eat for proper amount of fiber in your diet?
Any FODMAP recipes or links?
Any email or contact info for FODMAPS dietician or specialist?
Also how long did it take for you symptoms to clear up or see improvement?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Toby,

What country are you from? I can give you the name of the dietician who pioneered with the study and has helped me but she is located in Melboune, Australia. I had a phone consultation with her. I will send you the information in an email.

HI Jjay I was just about to email you. I am located in Canada and there isn't a lot of information, and I haven't found much online.

Hi Toby,

I have sent you a private email with the FODMAP diet attached and have also written here for the benefit of others who may read with interest.

The FODMAP diet I sent to you was given to me by the dietican who was involved in the research which is still ongoing. It is a diet for Imflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and crohns disease) and is also for Irritable bowel disease.

Jaci Barret's email address is on the attachement at the end. She is located in Melbourne, Australia. She does phone consultations. Even though the consultartion wasn't face to face it was by far the best consultation I've had with a dietican in the 14 years history of my illness.

I highly recomend Jaci. As for nuts and soy, everyone is different. I personally can't tolerate soy so stay away from it. Nuts are ok for me when there is no inflammation. If my gut is upset, I stay away from nuts. I cannot tolerate any gluten either and have only found this out through this diet but again everyone is not the same.

Good luck with it.

Your email did not get through, perhaps try resending it or sending it to : tobybennettrs@yahoo.ca

Thanks so much for your help, a telephone consult would be a great help I'm sure.

Hi Jjay...Ive just been browsing here and there looking for a solution for my grandson who is definately having cholic/wind problems and i would like to know more about the low fodmaps diet.
we have reduced lactose and gluten which has helped a lot but there are still times when his wind is so severe nobody is getting much sleep at night... and he wakes in pain after half an hour.
low fodmap sounds hopeful

Dear Najo
I can't send you a private email as you do not have your email address enabled on this site. If you click on the colour envelope on the side of my post I will then have an email to email back to you the FODMAP diet.

Alternatively you can look back at an earlier post on this thread and you will see a detailed post on the FODMAP diet. I will however email you a more user friendly verion if you wish. All the best.

Hi Toby,
I have never been tested for Gluten intolerances. I think if I wanted to be tested I would have to recommence eating wheat products.

Hi - new to this site. Was wondering if someone could send me a copy of the FODMAP diet? I've been researching on the internet and find all sorts of things about the diet but not the diet itself / what you can eat. Thanks in advance.

My email address is merrieheart@gmail.com.

Hi all.  I'm new to this site.  I'm about to have a gastric emptying test in a week.  My GI doctor said I might want to try to FODMAP diet.  However, when I google it, there is so much info on it but nothing that I can find that says what I CAN eat.  Does anyone know what is appropriate to eat or have a link?  Also, I have a j-pouch, had reanastamosi in 1992, bowel obstruction in 1993, chronic pouchitis ever since.  Now - severe abdominal pain/bloating/belching/back-ache.  I think they're (doctors) checking for gastroparesis.  Anyone know of a good motility specialist on this subject?  Also, what is the best test for gastroparesis.  I've heard that the gastric emptying, by swallowing radioactive material and camera circling your body while taking pictures, will not give the best diagnosis.  I don't want to have to go through these tests again.  Thanks!

Hi. Thank you for the FODMAP diet, Joan. My gastric emptying test came back normal. GI doctor is still stumped as to what is causing the severe abdominal distention and pain. I have back pain as well and now lower pelvic pain (within the last 2 days). I just don't know what to do since I have no pain meds. I cannot live this way. Someone has GOT to have an answer. If anyone has any suggestions about any of this - I'd truly appreciate it! Thanks for listening.

My E-mail adress is: pingvin5899@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance :)

Can anyone tell me if soya (tamari, tofu etc) is allowed on the diet?  Other legumes are not, but not sure about soya.  Also, is table sugar allowed?  Alcohol?

Thanks
