Hello all,

For the past few weeks I have been battling abdominal pain, cramps, and pain under my rib cage. The pain was most severe a few weeks ago and now comes and goes, mostly during the day. During the night I am uncomfortable but the pain is not as severe. Tonight my gatro dr told me that my abdominal ultrasound and HIDA scan came back normal. I am happy for that but now what? We discussed the possibility that my acid reflux may not be under control. I am currently taking prilosec 1x/day. Tomorrow I will be starting a stomach relaxer in addition to the PPI. I will be on it for at least week and if that doesn't work we will discuss other treatment options. I have never taken a stomach relaxer. For those of you who have, did it help? make it worse? create other issues? I am also wondering if the Prilosec is just not effective anymore. I have been watching myself but now I feel the need to restrict my diet even more. Any thoughts?

Thanks a bunch :)

Depends on the stomach relaxer or spasm medicine as they like to call it. Some may relax the spasm but get you a bit accelerated as they are a stimulant. The other is designed to relax the stomach and you too at the same time.
The later can relax the spasm so that the prilosec has a chance to work but it can also relax the valve between your stomach a bit much so eat smaller portions and specific times try not to eat under stress or in a hurry.
let us know how you do

kimmie when I was taking Prilosec, I was in pain under my rib cage, and I felt like my entire chest was bloated and swollen and sore.  Eventually, I felt like I couldn't breathe.  Mine was slight, then moderate, then to point I it was unbearable when I felt I couldn't breathe.  My doc said she has never had anyone like me, reacting to all the meds.  It took awhile after stopping the Prilosec until it all calmed down, but it did.

Mary Love,
What is weird is that I have been on the medicine for over a year without a problem. My goal is to get the reflux under control and then wean myself off it naturally. I don't know if it will happen but its worth a try.

Hi littlepeanut, mary Love, and kara487,

Mary Love, Thank you for the warm comments of support and kara487 for your sharing.

Littlepeanut, Thank you for asking. I think it went fairly well for the first day. I felt better earlier in the day but that may be due to the fact that it is wearing off. I am not sure how long it is supposed to last so that is just a guess on my part. I am taking belladonna. Have any of you heard of it? It felt a little weird this morning probably because I am getting used to the discomfort and pain. Urgh! Getting used to it is not something I really want to do! Towards the evening I started to feel mild discomfort so like I said before I think it is wearing off. I also ate later than I usually do as I was visiting with relatives. I will see how it works tomorrow. I have a family gathering and I will really have to watch myself.

Again, thanks to you all for your support. Have a nice weekend :)

Hi!

Tomorrow I will be on the stomach relaxer for one week and for the most part it has helped. I still get occassional cramping but it is no where near as bad as it was. I am still experiencing a lot of gas although restricting my diet is helping. I will not physically see my gstro doctor until January which is frustrating but lucky for me she returns calls pretty promptly.

I am a little nervous about the increased gas. It does happen more at night and I have done my best to eat smaller meals earlier in the evening and to drink some chamomile tea to ease digestion. I am already using a wedge pillow. Is there anything else you think I can do naturally to address it?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Kim
