I am a 36 year old female.
For almost 2 weeks I have had daily nausea/queasiness, and discomfort/cramps in my stomach, mainly upper but sometimes lower down. Also cramps immediately after eating and for a couple of hours after, then my stomach feels very 'empty' and gurgling. Doesnt seems to matter what I eat - fatty or healthy foods have the same effect. Feel like i want to burp but it doesnt really help. My appetite is ok, once i sit down to eat im really hungry (though hurting!) and bowels normal.

I visited my doctor and he gave me Omeprazole 20mg, and said I probably just have a 'dodgy' stomach possibly caused by stress. He gave me a physical exam and said my liver is not enlarged and he can't feel any gallstones. I also started taking a course of probiotics recommended by my local health shop.

After 3 days on this i started to feel a bit better - the nausea reduced to just a bit during the day time. In fact yesterday i felt almost normal and was very pleased. Today however, it seems i am back to square one - bad nausea, cramps (around my ovaries area as well as up high) - i have a lot of saliva in my mouth, and a bad taste that doesnt go when i have mints. I'm very fed up and concerned as i thought i was getting better. It seems not..

A month ago i had very severe tonsilitus and was on strong course of antibiotics - could this have any bearing on my symptoms?

If this was Acid Reflux wouldn't the omeprazole have worked on these symptoms? I can't go back to my doc until next week, and i'm getting anxious (I am an anxious person and have been stressed lately) - what could this all be?

Hello Hazed,

I have met you over in the A & P Forum where you had problems with your son back in January re swallowing problems.

I know your a big fan of Claire Weekes and you have a direct link to her books in your sig line  that takes you to Amazon.com which is one of our sponsors...................

I am not sure what is going on with you but 3 days is probably not enough time to know for sure if the medication is not working.  I would like you to read through some of our threads as well as our link :

I am sure you will find much good info in the threads.  Do follow up with your physician as you may need futher tests.

As for your anxiety I cannot trump anything by Claire so do review your info in her materials.  :-)

I am so glad you found this forum.

Keep on talking to us and let us know how you are doing.

Gentle Hugs,

Kitt

Hi Kitt,
Yes I remember you from back in Jan. My son is a little better now which is good..!
Thanks for the link - doesnt mention having nausea at all, so maybe this is something else. Also Ive been on the meds for 7 days today (it was yesterday i felt good but today not) so I think they should be working if they are going to? Maybe some people they could take longer to have an effect?

Hello Hazed

It sounds like you have some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrom with having the cramps after eating and the stomach gurgling. IBS can also be brought on by anxiety and stress. Do you normally consume a high fiber diet? If not, that is usually helpful in treating IBS. Hope you get to feeling better. You might want to try some metamucil or citrucil if you are not getting enough fiber in your diet. Good luck!

Hope you get to feeling better,

gentleman k

No i dont eat a particularly high fibre diet, but it's not terrible either. I'm still the same after a month, perhaps a tiny bit better in that i dont feel bad in the evening as much. Noticed that straight after breakfast i have a BM (that is normal) an dthen i start to feel sick. this lasts until around 4-5pm or so, and is better after dinner. A friend suggested i may be having side effects from the PPI (omeprazole) and that's why i still feel sick. I'm not so sure. Some else said IBS, but then i have normal BM. I'm just so scared this is somehting bad like cancer or something - im even scared to get tests done because they make me so anxious. However i'm off to see the doc tomorrow so will see what she says. Anyone else have nausea as a main symptom here and know what it could be?

Hello there and I am glad your off to see the Doctors.  I know you are afraid but remember the odds are it is not serious so go and find out.

It is better to know what is going on then to be stuck in anticipatory anxiety and the what ifs?

Let us know what you find out.

Health & Happiness,

Kitt

Hazed -

Just joined and saw your post from a month ago. I hope you're fine now, but if not I offer this:
Insist on being tested for C. Difficile. It sounds very much like that is what you have and it needs a specific medical course of treatment - additionally, C. Difficile is typically acquired from having been on certain antibiotics - apparently more so in recent years. Good luck.
