Could any one tell me how long you waited before you were doing "core" exercises.  it's been 9 weeks since i had emergency surgery to pull my hernia out of my chest and do a wrap.  I'm guessing I had a fundoplication cause I had reflux also.  My name is Latricia, and I had surgery May 13, 2009

Hello Latricia

I suspect the answer to your question depends on how well you are doing and what your physician instructs you as far as exercising.

I have not had the surgery but I am sure some of the members who have will be along and offer you information.

Welcome to HealingWell.

Thanks Kitt, I appreciate your response. I think I'll call my Doctor just to be on the safe side.

Hi, I just got your post;  I've always had a hiatal hernia, I don't know exactly when it decided to migrate to my chest..I started having slight discomfort in my chest about a year ago..I had ekg's and chest xray and everything seems normal except I felt tired all the time and I'd always get this tighness in my chest...long story short...I thought I was having gas pains one thursday, pain got progessively worse, went to the Er on Saturday morning, they did xray and ct scan, said my hernia had moved to my chest and they needed to do emergency surgery.  So if you're having chest pains or whatever maybe you should ask for a ct scan.  I have no idea how long the hernia had been in my chest.  Sorry I took so long to get to the point.
