Today i went to a GI specialist, he told me that since i feel the burning in my stomach and not in my chest then it is not considered heartburn. He didnt say much about and talked more about my constipation and stomach pains.

Anybody in the same situation??

Yeah, he could still be trying to find out what it is...it's still a digestive problem though. I've had burning in the stomach as well mostly, but once or twice it made its way to my chest. Have you tried changing your diet at all?

Judy,
You can have a reactive stomach or chronic gastritis. Both can make your stomach very uncomfortable. Also, the pain can move into the lower esophagus and still be interpreted as stomach irritation. I have a reactive stomach, and have had problems lasting months at a time.
Don't let docs tell you what you're feeling. They seem to be good at that.
Hang in there!

It could be an attack of Gastritis. Look at what your eating and eliminate caffiene and fried foods for a bit. This may help you feel better. Try DGL ( look up the reference on the web). It takes time for these things to develop but if you have gone to see your doctor then your off to a good start.  My first attack felt like if I had glass in my stomache. DGL and Chamomile tea helped alot.

That is what I have exactly! I have even gone to the ER because I felt so ill and was told it is gastritis. I get flare ups all of the time but I am now on Zegerid daily and am doing better but still have off days. However, I do think that GERD can cause burning in your stomach as well. Everyone is different. I was getting ear aches/sinus issues and was told that I have GERD and Gastritis!! Oh what fun...

Where is the pain in your stomach? I also have pain in my stomach and the doctor gave me a DX of dyspepsia. Functional dyspepsia causes upper abdominal pain. From what I understand they dont know what is wrong. My Doctor told me it was from me being worried. I dont think so, I believe I got it when I was put on a bid dose of ppis for reflux going inot my throat.

Good Morning All,

There are many causes of buring in the stomach.  Gastritis is inflammation of the lining of your stomach, which you may experience as a gnawing or burning pain in your stomach or upper abdomen. The lining of your stomach can become inflamed if you regularly take aspirin or certain other pain relievers that irritate the stomach. Drinking alcohol to excess can damage the lining of your stomach. Another common cause of gastritis is an infection with the same bug that can cause stomach ulcers.

As the members have mentioned some of these same issues I would like to kindly suggest you seek a second opinion from a gastroenterologist if your symptoms persist.

I hope you will keep talking with us as we do care about your welfare.

Kindly,
Kitt
