Hi She1,
This is variable.  It depends on how much of a trigger it was to you prior to your surgery.  I would recommend waiting two or three months, because alcohol is very irritating to an area that has been through a lot already.

You're really the only one who can answer that question.  Once you're feeling better and your healing has progressed, try a little and see how you do.  If you feel fine, try a little more the next time.  It's a trial and error thing...

Some here can drink coffee and wine with abandon after the initial healing.  I'm not one of those.  My stomach is very sensitive, so I drink both with care.  I still drink them, but save them for special occasions and don't drink a lot.

Here's hoping you can get right back to your wine without any untoward side effects!

Best wishes,
Denise

Thanks Dencha!
I don't really know how much of a factor it played in my pre-surgical state because EVERYTHING hurt me then..I do miss my coffee & glass of wine w/dinner :). I'm going to Maui in Sept & I look forward to a mai-tai (they're so much better over there for some reason) & some Kona coffee..I'll wait several more wks til i give it a try :))

Hi She,
It was 3 months until I tempted a glass of wine and it took me a long time to drink it. From what I can gather from other readers (and wish I had known about this forum back when I had my op in 09) all sorts of quirky things can go on post op for quite some time after. I'm happy to say that eventually I got back to enjoying my red wine as most of the quirks seemed to iron out.
Have a wonderful holiday as I'm sure by the time Sept rolls around you will be declaring, 'bottoms up!'

Yeah I should have added a disclaimer: I did not ask my doctor, and he might have suggested I wait a few weeks. But I was ok :) I've also done fine with carbonated beverages aside from the bloating. My approach is a trial and error one, I test the waters and see what works and what doesn't (within reason of course).
