Hi Silent world,

Welcome to Healing Well!  I can't help you with surgical costs, but I can offer you this link for the US News and World Report magazine's list of top hospitals for gastroenterology.  It provides a starting point, at least.  Good luck in you search!

Best wishes,
Denise

Also...I do know someone who had her surgery at Cleveland Clinic, and it was done by Dr. Rice.  She was very impressed with Dr. Rice, the staff, and the hospital.

In the United States, the cost of hiatal hernia repair will depend on the type of approach utilized, hospitalization and surgeons fees, but the cost of the procedure alone averages about $5,000, though costs may increase if complications, or certain patient conditions require more in-depth procedure and time, such as for those who are overweight or obese. However, patients traveling to destinations such as India, Mexico or Argentina may enjoy all-inclusive benefits and savings, with laparoscopic repair of hernia averaging around $2,000. Silent World: I can recommend a very good Thoracic Surgeon in central Florida (USA) He practices at Celebrations Hospital in Orlando. You can 'google' it...

Dr. Farid Gharagozloo is head of the Thoracic Surgery department there at Celebrations. He did my surgery in Tucson Arizona, before relocating to Florida.

The only draw-back is my surgery was very expensive; around $44,000. By the time all the insurance payments were worked out, it was about $11,000. I am thinking you could contact this Dr. and maybe he could recommend someone on your continent, which would cost a whole lot less. He has professional ties all over the US, and I think in other countries as well. He is widely published, well-regarded by his peers and very skillful. He's got my vote!

Best wishes on finding the right surgeon at the right price! Fresh Greens
