I have been battling acid reflux for three years. I have been back on Nexium for about a month and overall feel much better.  My newest symptom is the inside of my nose burning like crazy...along with a feeling of a stuffy nose.  What is this?  I mentioned it to my gi doc during my consultation for my scope and he just nodded and said that was part of gerd but did not get specific.  I am very very uncomfortable.

Also, I have major post nasal drip and can taste blood sometimes although I have not seen any.

Also, if I drink something really cold....my esophagus feels frozen.

Any of this sound familiar to any of you?  Thanks a bunch!!!

If your nose is stuffy, and runny, sometimes the inside of the nostrils can become inflammed and sensitive to cold dry air which can cause a burning sensation. Sometimes sinus infections can cause post nasal drip and even slight bleeding, or blood mixed into snot. Sometimes when you drink something cold the mucous in your chest can congeal causing a "frozen" type sensation. I personally have felt all of these symptoms before, I'm no doctor, and my opinion is certainly not professional, but it sounds like you have the common cold. Drink some hot tea to loosen the mucous, buy some saline solution at your local pharmacy for your nose, and talk to your doctor about a possible sinus infection.

Hearty,

Good Morning, I am not sure why your nose burns other then what you physician has told you.  Did he/she give you a reason why this would be a sx of your GERD?

This time of year with the weather being dry, our nasal passages do get very dried out and you may be having a little bleeding from your nostrils but if you are concerned and not comfortable with the answer from you GI, I would call and ask for clarification.

Take care.

My doc said the nose can burn if the acid has refluxed into the sinus cavities. Then when the sinuses drain the drainage can come back down into the throat or the nose.
