Does anyone have a taste of rotten eggs when they burp??  I do!
And I have constant rumbling in my stomach (or is it the intestines?)...

I'm going tohave a colonoscopy and a gastric emptying test.

I fear that from all the days I went without making a BM, my intestine may be rotting!!!!!!!!
Or can indigestion cause this taste in the mouth??

I am scared because I heard of a girl in her 30s (around my age) who kept smelling rotten eggs and then she died!!!  But hers went on for years and then she waited too long to do something about it.  So I hope that means that I have hope (since I"m not waiting for years).

Any insight would be great!  My colonoscopy is on Monday, gastric emptying test on Friday...

I don't know. If you have anything like that wrong, though, the colonoscopy will show it. I doubt it's rotting. I mean, you'd probably be so sick and in so much pain that you probably couldn't even type.

I'm not sure what rotten eggs would taste like, but I do have a variety of bad tastes associated with my GERD. Some of them are so bad I can hardly stand it, and no food or drink will wash them away. Most are very metallic. Others are bitter and I would characterize them as "toxic" (difficult to put into words). When I get the latter, I also feel sick all over usually. Eyes burning, sick and swollen stomach, teeth or ache, skin feels weird. I guess it's GERD. If not, who knows...

So I can't say whether we're tasting the same things or not (I can see the rotting egg description), but if we are I doubt your intestines are decomposing. I've had this for more than a year, and for better or worse I'm still alive. The type of thing you're talking about would kill a person really quickly.

In fact, my grandmother had a son who died in childhood. He woke up in a lot of pain one day and was dead three days later. The autopsy showed a kink in the small intestine and gangrene. From the stories I heard, I think you'd know if you had something like that. The same illness (I forget the name) is much easier to diagnose and treat today compared to the 1940's, but it still comes on very suddenly. An infection (can't have rotting w/o bacteria) would be making you extremely, extremely ill and you'd be running a very high fever.

Then again, I'm not a doctor. Mention it to your GI and let us know what he says.

I also have the rotten taste in mouth, sore throat and occasional loss of speaking voice. It is from GERD and these are atypical problems associated with GERD and harder to control than the more typical reaction. I use cough drops to take the taste away but it is only a temporary masking of the problem.

FG,
Good luck with the colonoscopy on Monday, let us know how everything went.
Don't you have to do the preparation (drink the liquid etc) before it to "clean yourself out"? Take care.

DANIE, thanks so much for wishing me luck!!!

I am on the liquid diet.  I am taking tons of laxative products but do not feel completely cleared up.  I think I need to take a softener as well as a stimulate but the doctor on call is not calling me back (it's sunday).  I have no idea but I will be so mad if I am not completely cleared out for the procedure!!  I am trying so hard to do so.  It is hard work when you have a blockage as I might have.

I'll let you know how it goes.  Nurit

indersonu, was the rotten taste in your mouth because of the gastroparesis that you have?

I am off to my colonscopy soon!

indersonu, I had my gastroparesis test Friday.  Results will be in Monday.  I have not been taking the PPIs.  But I'll go back to it, after reading what you said.

I had a colonoscopy.  They said that my colon was twisted all over the place and with spasms too.  The doctor didn't seem too worried anyway.  and i finally make bowel movements.  So I am going to hope for the best, thanks.

Thanks, indersonu.

I have been feeling so nauseous today, though I have been making bowels again due to eating more.  I'm confused because my GI told me to drink boost/ensure since I was too starved from not knowing what to eat.  Was she wrong?

indersonu, thanks for that info.  I don't know yet if I have gastroparesis.  I will find out monday. i will probably only make more drastic changes if I find out that I have it. But I will certainly take some of your advice.

Welcome almost there,
Have you seen a GI?
Meanwhile try some over the counter acid reducer.
It sounds like you messed up your digestion system with the alcohol. The GI will run some tests to see what's causing your problems.

By the way you posted on a very old thread (2 yrs old). Most of these people have moved on. Please start your own intro thread by clicking on "New Topic".

Welcome again. :)

I have those burps right now and am looking for answers. My mom had them in her late twenties, early thirties. She said that it ended up being her galbladder, it busted finally and hurt really bad. I'm just hoping thats not whats wrong

I had a similar problem and it turned out I had an intolerance to MSG and Nuts... not allergic...just intolerant. If I eat it in excess it causes similar problems.

Hi Everyone. Just want to say. I had my gallbladder removed months ago, because of gallstones. This morning I woke up burping rotten egg taste. Which I have never had this problem before. So, I checked around online and got that it is a parasite/bacteria that lives in the small intestine. So, I know for certain it is not the gallbladder, because I dont got one.

Recurrent "rotten-egg" tasting burps associated with diarrhea could be a symptom of Giardia lamblia infection. Giardia lamblia is a parasite that colonises and reproduces in the small intestine of humans, but is also one of the most common parasites infecting cats and dogs. Symptoms of infection could also include excessive gas, bloating and nausea. Usually the body will clear this parasite out on its own over time, but there are also medical treatments available.

People who have had similar symptoms due to other causes have listed some additional ideas below:
______
1) Could be a gastric-emptying problem (aka motility problem).

2) I have the same problem from time to time. Doc can't put his finger on it. I tried many of the prescription and more exotic drugs for stomach disorders and got zero relief. As a last resort I tried Bi****h subsalicylate and got IMMEDIATE relief. Yes Pepto-Bismol was my answer, as silly as it might seems.

3) I suffered this burps myself as a teen and it wasn't until I was about 22 that I realised it was actually an allergic reaction to some of the food I'd eat. For example when I was a teen my mum used to give me swede all the time for dinner, I used to love the stuff but I stopped eating it and the burps stopped, I didnt think nothing of it until I ate swede again when I was 22 and the next day I had these burps which would last for several days. Used to be embarrassing at School cos I could not help but burp and the classroom used to smell of rotten egg. When I burped quietly I just sat by the window and burped out of the window lol
