Hey there.. my daughter has been complaining of her belly feeling "bubbly" and when she burps and farts it smells like rotten eggs.. it is absolutely horrid..
She's only 10... I have heard that some people have this if they are lactose intolerant, but have also heard that it may be GERD.. I have GERD and a hiatal hernia, but have never had any run in with rotten eggs... I told her that we were going to try and cut down on her milk intake to see if that helps at all.. but I don't want to cut it out totally.. she LOVES milk... guess I can go to Soy, if I need to..
Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Ducky,
I definately exp the flatulence as you describe your daughter has, and I find it results from food fermenting in the belly. This sometimes results immediately after milk products, or builds up from foods eaten the prior day or two.
You can also try Lactaid milk, see if this helps, as she is too young to stop drinking some form of milk for calcium altogether. I personally don't agree with young children taking meds for reflux unless there's absolutely no getting around it.
Pay close attention to her food intake and see if alleviating the offending foods makes a difference.
Huggs,
V

Hey V.. thanks for the advice.. sorry it took me so long to reply, I just checked this thread.. I have limited her milk intake, and have only let her drink the Lactaid Milk, as she really really really doesn't like the Soy.. She's doing a bit better... is just odd that it just started, she's always drank a lot of milk and now just recently she's having these problems.. is that normal? For everything to be ok, one day, then the complete opposite the next?

This happened to me. Right around when I turned 20 (almost 21 now), I couldn't drink milk. I drank it all the time growing up, loved it, etc. It was just like my stomach flipped a switch. Accompanying that was acid reflux, and i have to take 30mg Prevacid 1x a day now as well. So yeah, definitely was an immediate change for me.

In the past week I have been having these same issues. I suggest getting your food allergies tested. There is this new program that tells you what your food allergies are, your level 3 food allergies, and its not been introduced to the U.S.A. yet but its coming soon. One place near me is College Pharmacy here in colorado springs. They take a sample of your blood and test it with numerous foods. Someone I know got this test done and found numerous items she liked, that she was really allergic to! Milk happened to be one of hers it was rated a 2 out of 4. They also told her that a level 3 allergy (NOT rating on the scale) can progressively get worse if you keep eating that food. Say you have a level 1 food allergy to milk and you drink milk everyday for a year it could become a level 4 food allergy before a short while. LEvel 3 food allergyies you can get the symptoms even after 1 day. Like have you tounge itchy, or stomach problems. This could be a part in your daughters problems, maybe she is allergic to milk.

BetterFeeling, don't allergy care centers here in tlhe US also test food allergies? They always say that on the commercials...
Ducky, I had a rotten egg taste in my mouth when I belch, too. But I am not lactose intolerant so for me, I don't think it was from the milk.
Can you have your daughter checked for celiac? I think that is also a good idea! It is a simple blood test. I got tested for that too.

Hi All,
Well if someone can help me that would be great. about
2 yrs ago, for no apparent reason I went from a rarely gassy girl to a full on more than 20x a day but with ZERO bloat or cramp, horrible stink bomb! What is wrong with me? No symtoms of anything except stink!
I hadent changed any eating habits and this whole gas thing just appeared it seems. Like I said 2 yrs ago nothing then it started and in this last yr its just gotten worse. I wake up in the morning and when I havent eaten anything for hrs from the day before and before I even get any water first thing in the morning and there it goes, stinky rotten gas, 6-8x in an hour and a half while I get ready. It doesnt ever ever cause me any discomfort at all except I just dont understand why it happening to me so much now?? It seems its regardless of what i eat, I dont see a change in with or w/o dairy, meat, spices, cereal, etc...
Does anyone have anything they can share to help me out, im getting kinda worried, thank god i am single! lol...

gray03, have you gotten your colon checked (colonoscopy)? If not, I'd do that too. Just to make sure you don't have IBS. IBS can also cause gas...

SnowyLynne, I was told that the rotten egg belching is acid reflux.

I remember this happening to me when I was in the 7th grade (20 yrs ago). It was the morning of my very first mid terms. I think I was so nervous, that it caused really bad stomach upset. I kept burping, and it stank really bad. I remember really turning some people off with the stench. It was horrid! It didn't last very long, though. I don't recall it ever happening since.
(undiagnosed) chronic pain, for nearly 10 yrs and counting..

Hello Ducky: Sorry to hear about
your daughter. I had the same symptoms as she for years and was FINALLY correctly diagnosed with small bowel bacterial overgrowth. Never heard of it until then, but all that was necessary was a round of Cipro. This was after years of all kinds of meds plus OTC. This was wonderful and really worked for me. I hope this helps because those symptoms were absolutly horrible.

I also have been suffering from these symptoms (rotten eggs burps, severe abdominal pains that keeps me bed ridden from 1-2 days) since I was a young child...It seems to come and go...I get these attacks(as I like to call them) every couple of months to 2-3 Months...haves been through many test (like blood tests, ultrasounds, xrays, internal examinations, ECT.) have been diagnosed with many different things, like chronic stomach pains, acid reflux disease, cysts but DONT think that these are what its caused from. NO doctor I have seen has given me the same results, nor do they seem to know what is WRONG with me...and EVERYTHING I have tried DIDNT even work...all meds given to me at the hospital, like morphine, only made my pains more severe...I DONT believe I am lactose intolerant...have been drinking and eating it ALL my life...was REALLY excited to FINALLY find something, ANYTHING online about
this...have been searching for years...thought I was the ONLY one with this condition...I am in DESPERATE need of finding a REAL diagnosis or cure for this...it is truly PAINFUL...what I would imagine death to feel like...please HELP me!!! I just had yet, ANOTHER attack yesterday evening and am STILL suffering from it, so if ANYONE can HELP me or has a solution, PLEASE repost...id love to hear your stories...i figure if I read enough of others stories of these DISGUSTING symptoms...I just might find a solution on my own...thanks, hope to hear from you soon =)

Hello Prettimomma. I have had the same identical symptoms you have and a round of Cipro took care of my problem. I was FINALLY diagnosed with small bowel bacteria overgrowth. Never heard of such, HOWEVER, Cipro definitely works.

Thanks, I looked this up and seems it could very well be possible. But, like I said I've had internal examinations before as well, and they either MISSED it or it isn't MY diagnosis. I know ONE other person who says they have experienced this as well, she says all her pain went away when she had her gallbladder removed...also had mine check, was told that was FINE too!!! Just REALLY fed up, its TOO painful...Thank you very much...will have that looked at IMMEDIATELY...Thanks again!!! =)

Absolutely. I recently left the healthcare arena when I retired, therefore, I had numerous tests and more tests as well; even laid on a table for 2 or 3 hours testing for "delayed gastric emptying" which was a diganosis that one doc said. And then finally merely by accident was taking Cipro for something else and found out that it took care of the other problem as well. I sure hopes this works for you because the symtpoms of this problem are terrible. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
