Hello I am 41 and so tired of having GERD.
It seems that after my last pregnancy - the heartburn just didn't go away. My last pregnancy was 12 yrs ago! sad
I am on 40mg of Pantaloc daily. It helps .... but I still get heartburn. Most days I feel like a I carrying a rock in my upper abdomen - right in the diagphram area - under the bottom of my rib cage. I am also on Effexor for anxiety. I have an anxiety disorder. Which came first? The anxiety. I will say that the anxiety and stress WILL make my GERD symptoms worse. But I do not believe it to be the cause.
I have been reading through this message board and am relieved to have read that others experience what I do. I can relate to so many of you.
I am now waking up with a wheeze. I don't have asthma or allergies.
I have the constant post nasal drip and have had it for months. My DR suggested an antihistamine - it helps a "little" but the morning wheeze is still there.
I have woken up choking on stomach acid. This is truly a frightening feeling skull   Not to mention a horrible taste. I sleep with 2 pillows but still this happens. I try not to eat before bed.
I get heartburn/reflux when I bend over to pick something up. Which of course is OFTEN. eyes I am just so tired of this. There doesn't seem to be a day that my stomach feels "normal".
I have had barrium swallow tests = acidic - but not too bad
and and endoscope last year - results - "NORMAL"! I was shocked! confused ow could it be normal????? Not that I wanted them to find anything but I was looking for answers and maybe just maybe a ....CURE! sad
Interstingly enough - my sons both had relux as infants - spat up all the time - now one of them is having GERD symptoms.
I just want it to go away! sad

I am exact same as you and have discussed trying Effexor with doc to help my anxiety and Gerd. Has the Effexor helped your anxiety attacks at all? Sounds like it has not helped your Gerd?

Hello,

My anxiety is ALOT better so I suppose to some minimal degree my GERD is too. Anxiety and stress made my GERD worse.
But I still have it.
Scary thing is I believe I am coming tolerant to the pain.
When I think of non GERD folks they would cringe with the pain that I feel daily.
I am still annoyed as hell with it but its become -- Life.
How bad is THAT!

That's great are your anxiety attacks completely gone now? Do you ever need to take a quick acting sedative like Ativan still?

welsh5, I too suffer from GERD. I have been on Protonix 40mg since at least January of this year. Maybe longer. I got up feeling awful this morning. Bad burning in my upper abdomen and chest and throat. I have not eaten anything spicy. I avoid spice. Now this has me very anxious and stressed and does anyone else with this have the symptoms of stuffiness in their nose and ears hurting and a sore throat. I was full of air this morning in my gut and have been belching like crazy so mine is largely gas I am sure, stress also and unfortunately acid I think even though I never belch anything up into my throat. I am panicking.

I also have the symptoms of stuffy nose, constant post-nasal drip and searing sore throat that.  Even my ear canals are burning. I also suffer from the esophagus burn, the upper stomach pain and burning.  Sometimes it feels like a hot poker is being driven right through my solarplexis.  I have trouble swallowing. These additional symptoms started up after April when my husband and I travelled out of the country and got sick with a Rota Virus while on vacation.

I have been on PPIs for 10 years but the Nexium pretty much seemed to control my symptoms.  I didn't stop drinking my morning coffee or evening dinner wine until we got sick with the Rota Virus.  A recent endoscopy revealed that I have Barrett's esophagus near the LES.  How did that happen without me noticing!  I've had acid pain for years, sure, but didn't know it was progressed to Barrett's.  I never had an abnormal endoscopy until recently.

I think the nasal stuffiness and post nasal drip are related to GERD.  An ENT doc told me that acid will irritate the tissue in the throat and cause the body to react as if it is allergic -- producing inflamation and congestion.

You have been on the PPI's for 10 years and have Barrett's? I thought these PPI's were supposed to protect us from this?
