The use of antifungal agents in psoriasis care tends to revolve around the treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis.

They are useful in removing the fungus pityrosporum ovale, more recently known as malassezia which has been linked to conditions such as dandruff and scaly scalp conditions. Some commonly used anti-dandruff shampoos claim to have activity against these microbes.

Prescribed Antifungals can be used alone or in combination with topical corticosteroids, and antibacterials or both. They are sometimes incorporated into a treatment regime to prevent fungal infection on skin which could be prone to it.

Antifungal treatments:
• Timodine
• Adcortyl
• Canesten HC
• Daktacort Hydrocortisone cream
