This is something I'm curious about-- I also suffer from migraines, and the neurologist wants to try either beta blockers or topamax next (I've already tried calcium channel (verapamil), but it tanked my blood pressure, I'm usually low anyway, unless I've taken a ton of proventil (I've also tried nortryptaline, w/ no success)

The side effects of the two (Beta Blockers and Topamax) really scare me, especially with my asthma being out of whack for some reason. I really wanted to see the pulmonologist BEFORE the neurologist, to see what he would think about trying either drug, but it's looking like I'll be seeing the neuro first.

I can tell you this, I was diagnosed with epilepsy about 16 or 17 months ago and Topamax is one of the three seizure medications I am on.  It has also helped my migraines tremendously.  I had asked my neurologist about cutting back on some of my medications and he let me cut back on the Topamax.  My migraines started coming back, so I called him and asked if I could go back to where I was for that reason.

Insurance only allows you nine Imitrex per month and I used to pray that I could make it through the month with nine.  Now, I go months without getting it refilled.  I hope this information helps you.  I also have severe asthma.  If you have any other questions, I will be glad to try to answer them for you.

Take care!

I take no beta blocker and just a calcium blocker for my hypertension. I tried an ace inhibitor but it gave me bad reflux. I am just a moderate asthma person but beta blocker is not good for me.
