swollen throat

Hi Everyone my name is kim and I Live in Georgia the pollen  has been getting to me bad my nose is all stuffy and my throat hurts bad  it feels like half of my throat is swollen. I take otc zyrtec and it doesn't help much. Do you have any suggesstions? im so miserable and cant afford a dr's visit.

Hi Kim......to me it sounds like maybe it can be more then allergies. I know you can't afford a dr.s visit but if your throat is as sore as you say it is then it could be something more serious then just allergies such as strep throat, tonsillitis (if you still have your tonsils), or a throat infection. If it is strep, this needs to be taken seriously since strep can cause so many more complications. Do you have a fever at all? In the meantime, if you can tolerate Advil - then I recommend you take that. Not only can it help with the pain, it can help with any swelling you have. Gargling with warm salt water can help your throat and using a humidifier can help with a stuffy nose in combination with saline nasal spray. I'm so sorry you are feeling so poorly! Hang in there.

I just got checked out two weeks at the dr ande he said it was allergies. nO I dont have a fever. Thank you for your suggestion of using salt water I will try that,
