Hi my name is Annette, and I am new here.  I have had asthma and multiple allergies since I was 28 years old.  I am allergic to cats, dust, molds, and might have a food allergy.  I am on Symbicort and singulair for my asthma, as my asthma is severe.  I haven't had a flare up of my asthma, but I  am frequently having flare ups of my allergies, particularly dust and molds.  I was wondering if there are other people who also have multiple allergies and asthma? cool

Hello Annette, welcome to Healingwell :) I don't have asthma (my son does) but I do have allergies. I'm sure you will get more responses as the day goes on. But I do believe that many people with asthma do have allergies. I know my son does. He is allergic to cats, dogs, dust and mold. When his allergies act up so does his asthma but luckily it isn't severe and he doesn't use medication right now. But when he does have to use meds, he uses Albuterol or Asmanex in addition to allergy pills such as Allegra and/or Singulair.

Nice to meet you robin, and your not alone in having a lot of
allergies, I don't have the food allergies, but that must be a hard one..
So glad to hear that your asthma is under control, that's always good to hear.
Try using a saline nasal spray (not the wash) to see if it helps.
I'm allergic to dogs, plant molds ( I used to love to garden), molds, dust and certain tree's, ect...
so pretty much year round allergies...
good luck to you and welcome...
lots of soft hugz........

Hi Robin, I have asthma and allergies.  My asthma was very bad this summer.  I was put on Symbicort as you are and I am doing very well - it is under control.  I also have allergies, the same ones you have.  You may need an allergy med such as Zyrtec to help and maybe you need a sinus med.  You should check with your dr.  I used to take Allegra and it did absolutely no good.  So now I take Zyrtec and really like it and it helps.  I have albuterol for a rescue inhaler if I get a bad attack but haven't had one since Oct. and being on the Symbicort.  That is really a great inhaler.  Post and let us know how you are doing.

Just a few more ideas, Robin.  Do you have an air purifier?  I have one for my bedroom and that pulls out all the dust and other allergen particles out of the air.  You might try using one. Also, a humidifier may help.  The other thing I did which you may think is extreme is I bought all new hypo allergenic bedding, mattress cover, dust mite covers for pillows and mattress and had my carpeting and mattress cleaned and had an allergy coating protectant put on.  The allergy coating is supposed to last 6 months but you have to have the mattress and carpeting cleaned of all dust and dust mites.  Yes, it can get expensive but the price of being able to breathe freely now is worth it.
